Vegas to Phoenix.
Rand will route you down the 93, 40, 17
Copilot takes the 93 all the way.
Prescott, AZ. Rand will take you there, but has no clue how to get you out. ( unless it's been fixed by now )??
Copilot took me over to the 17.
Salt Lake to Albuquerque.
Rand takes 80, 25.
Copilot takes 15, 6, 70, 191, 491, 40. Although i take a back road over the top of cortez, NEVER swinging through cortez and the scale. Jumping over to the 160 to Durango and catching the 550 to 25. Once i'm off the backroad and on to the 160, copilot reroutes using the 550.
Any gps that can't use NON staa routes isn't worth using in my opinion. And the rand technical adivsor will argue otherwise.
I've never had the garmin so i can comment on that brand. But copilot saved me 2,000 miles during my brief trial comparison to rand. .
There are now phone apps that might also be worth looking at, besides copilot.
Full fledged maps downloaded to the phone. Just like copilot. Sygic now has trucking. Really nice real time live graphics. But a PITA to install as it has no way to reactivate itself off your email addy. Should you decide to erase or install on another device. You have to contact customer service for the license you purchased. Or keep it written down in a place you hope you won't forget. There is also Apion ( i think it's called ) and i think navigon was also offering truck gps now.
I know there's 4 apps. The names just slip me at the moment.

You are not going to go wrong with either GPS it all depends on what you use it for and where you drive. I always have both set to quickest route, then the Garmin will give me a stupid route out of Denver or wherever. Even when I switch it to shortest distance it gives practically the same route. It get ridiculous. Now obviously you can just drive the way you want and it will recalculate but still. -
Curious, the 560 and 770 have not routed that way unless I forced it.
One thing I have found on the older Garmin devices is that the "my trends" function was garbage and did cause some problems. It would see a road that I had used a lot and try and route to that road. Once I shut that off and cleared out the history, it started routing a lot better. -
Canned Spam Thanks this.

BTW- Thanks for the comparison. In all reality, I really need to get a GPS. I've almost gotten stopped twice by DOT while using Google maps on my phone. So kudos Ethos.

One thing I like about a stand alone unit over an app is most apps need to have some form of network connection in order to fully function properly. Most apps do not store map data local. Some may, but that is a huge file to store local.
