How to deal with a difficult broker.

    Just wondering how everyone handles a broker that wants to give you a hard time.

    You know, the ones that got something smart to say, or the ones that are checking up on you 3, or 4 times a day and get upset if you don't answer or return there calls right away.

    Or the ones that want to yell at you for whatever reason.

    I hauled for brokers with this company,i hung up on them and told my told my dispatcher to deal with them.

    I've had one blow a fues today because I didn't pick up the shipment at my appointment time. I still got loaded with 3 hours to spare.

    There is no reason for a broker to be a smart ### to a carrier. Its unprofessional. Or vice versa for a carrier to be a jerk to a broker. If the rate works for the truck, great. If it doesn't, offer a counter and if that doesn't work say thanks and move on. Those that act like and perform as a pro will always get better rates.

    How many minutes or hours were you late?maybe this shipper charges if your late.but as long as you make it to the consignee on time he'll get over it.are you a company driver or owner op?

    Thanks Bob, the places I go to are places I've been before. I know the operation, the people almost like the back of my hand. But every once in a while one will call me up to tell at me. Something stupiex
    Owner operator, I was just over 2 hours late, and I know the shipper stays open til 10 p.m. just a broker busting my chops.

    Usually due to an excess of emotions involved in a primarily business exchange.

    It would take too long for one party to explain to the other why x or y will not suffice, therefore- as you say " thanks and move on".

    As a company driver, I am sometimes dispatched on brokered loads. My dispatcher sends the broker information over the QC, and I call with status updates. My dispatcher appreciates the reduced workload, and I've never encountered a snarky broker. Maybe brokers are 'difficult' because they find that your company is difficult to deal with, or in the case of an independent O/O, YOU are difficult to deal with?

    Maybe, but when I booked the load I over heard the girl say "see, I can book a load" and then calls me up today to give me a hard time.
