Going to have to challenge this. I've been pulling a tanker for years, all different kinds of product and never pulled a baffle. I have slammed on the brakes, stopped quick etc. I have never, ever had a trailer come around on me, not once. I've never seen it happen, I've never heard of it happening to any of the hundreds of coworkers I've had. Sorry but your advice to "lay on the horn" is dangerous and ill advised.
I would also, one day, like to experience this seemingly rare sensation of surge literally pushing me through an intersection. In the hundreds of thousands of stops I've made in my career I think at some point I would have had that happen. Sure if you're the kind of guy that doesn't hold the brakes down it could happen but that's an easy fix, simply hold the pedal.

Your right, it I'd I'll advised to blow a light. I never did with s tanker either. But then I can't say I ever locked up the brakes. I had some hard controlled stops but nothing I was worried about.
I retract my current post.ethos Thanks this. -
There's a youtube video of a local tanker jack knife because he slam on the brake.
Now you kinda seem it happen
The way he jackknife, it seem the slosh slam into him -
Yup, just because you don't ever ever ever have it happen to you does not mean it won't happen to me or him.
I deleted my post because I didn't like how it was written. Sounded all choppy and like I had a third grade reading level. What I did post, I didn't just pull out my ###. There's truth to most of it somewhere. I'm just not going to find it. -
We have no way of knowing the condition of that trailer or its brakes. The driver could have had a medical problem, hit something or been hit by something we didn't see. The video proves nothing about surge causing the trailer to come around. Vans jack knife too after all.firemedic2816 Thanks this.

This driver was probably reaching for a Cheeto or was having a heart attack. He was definitely NOT trying to slow down.Last edited: Jan 7, 2016

This one, you clearly see the brake lights come on. -
I don't see the point, the description says the truck hit black ice. Again, we have no way of knowing the condition of the brakes or even if the tanker was loaded.
-
Fine. A loaded tanker getting on the brakes in slick conditions will not cause the load to surge and make the tanker come around.
A loaded tanker jackknifing has nothing to do with being loaded. If it jack knifes, its driver error.
