Hello all,
I live in Brunswick, MD and, after (too long) in retail will be entering the CDL job market after school finishes in early March.
I already have a TWIC card in my possession and expect on licensing to receive every endorsement offered, (tank, HazMat, doubles.) School should net approximately 160 hours wheel time.
2 questions. 1. What sort of resume/cover letter construct are companies looking for from someone who's new to the industry but has a work history? 2. What employers should I look (or look out for) for OTR driving?
thanks in advance for the help,

@Chinatown
Chinatown would probably recommend a tanker outfit. If you're into that, there's also dry van, reefers and flatbed work. Choice your poison and journey on. Tanker, as far as I'm hearing makes the most $$$.
Avoid c.r England and western express.
Tanker outfit I know:
Prime
Schneider bulk
.....
..

Anddddddd that's all I know
Sorry I'm not as good as Chinatown ^_^FerrissWheel and Puppage Thank this. -
You don't need a resume in trucking; just an application, MVR, original birth certificate, original social security card thats not laminated.
Also get a passport card for Canada runs unless you already have a passport book.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
Approach with caution and do ur research. Companies lie lie lie esp to new drivers.

is there a board ala monster.com where I could post my stats and have companies call or am I going to be the one doing the searching?
***ALSO, do I tell companies about accidents in personal vehicle where no ticket was issued?Last edited: Jan 7, 2016

True that!
I will go even one further. I will not suggest applying to a company that is asking for a resume. Why? Because they don't know trucking. Mind you there are exceptions to this rule, but most people asking for a resume in trucking do know a thing about trucking: The DOT requires a trucking company to have job application on file in the a drivers personal file at the company. Those employers asking for a resume usually fall in two categories; Those that do not know the trucking laws, and therefore a crap company to work for. And, those that are just micromanaging desk jockeys that are using your resume to fill up their desk and time clock. Most of these employers have no intention of hiring anyway; they just need to keep the personal manager in a comfy position.
As a new driver you may have to deal with a recruiter to get in the business and down the road. The universal truth about recruiters is they lie worse than a used car salesman. But after you get some experience, and look for real job remember what I just told you.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
Got all your limbs and correctable vision "here's the keys"
Like the others said, check carefully into the company's you are interested. Try asking current employees if avalible to you. Plenty on here that have worked with a ton of companies.
And take everyone's version of events with a truckload worth of salt.
Two popular liars out there, "my job is the best ever," and "my job is the worst ever."
