it really depends more on who you are leased to. unless your referring to one with their own authority. my co get big discounts, like 1.00 less than cash price at the pilot or J last year right now it's about .50 a gallon less than cash. some co's negotiate a better discount than others. I love when I get triple points, I rack up points quick, then all the stuff I want or need is bought with points not my money, like anti gel for $20.00 a bottle the points come in handy, not to mention the free drinks, dog's , or what have you.

 

You do realize that there are other places to fuel than those you mentioned don't you?

 

my fuel card is comdata which gets me my discount. and the pilot professional drivers card is where my points are loaded on.

 

If you get good at searching fuel prices through cellphone apps, you can find places nearly as low as flying J even with a fleet discount. Working for crst Malone, I've been able to compare the best discounts, with whatever else is available out there. While I'll admit that the discount always wins, there are always places here aND there, which are not your name brand truck stops, that offer a very comparable price. For instance, you might pay 1.89 at Love's, but Mr mom n pop is selling for 1.94. Since you wouldn't be getting as big of a discount as an independent who isn't working for a fleet, these mom n pop prices might even beat what you will get with a discount at the contending fuel islands.

 

Unrelated question, but, who sells the fuel that fudges up the engines because of water in the diesel? Mom n pops or big fuelers? And how does it get there?

 

Great question. My dad, whose been driving since '63, and won't retire, will only fuel at pilot, J, petro, TA, etc. Says in all his years he has never had a problem with their fuel. Smaller, low volume places have.
I have, as a company driver, been required to fuel at the big chains. Never a problem. Two weeks ago, as on oo, got a load of wet fuel at the Quick Trip in Muskogee, ok. So, 1.63 turned out not to be the best deal.
Guess by now I would have learned to listen to my parents, lol.
