just over 30 years ago I lived in Chicago. I wanted to buy the business I worked in. I talked to my bosses accountant, his banker & others. to get a business loan on the commercial property 15% dn payment was required. 1 of the men trying to help me was a minority. he told me if I were a minority all that would be required was 5%, but because I was considered privileged by being a white American, I did not quality.

at that time , I did not think anything about the reverse discrimination. it was not until about 20 years later that I looked back on that day.I wondered why I never felt any anger, resentment, not even feeling like it was unfair. what bothered me most, was why I did not? had to think hard, but it was because I was never taught to look at myself as a victim.

the folks who were mentors in my life were from the greatest generation. after listening to their stories of real life during the absolute worst times, from the great depression, to the wars of Europe, these folks would never let me complain. about anything. any problem I had was so minor compared to what these folks had to endure. I did end up buying the business.

after figuring out that all I needed to do is work 3 jobs to make it happen,
it taught me a lot. I look at how to overcome, adapt, & make it happen not make excuses. if I looked at myself as a victim back then, I would most likely still be complaining & blaming everything on someone else. there is always going to be injustice. I just choose to never let it interfere!.

 

When you fill out a broker packet on RMIS, it asks if your company is owned by woman, native American and smth else, I have never seen it asking if the company is owned by Eastern Euro lol
