I don't know if I'm in the right spot but I am looking I to swift and knight as my new careers, no experience and will be doing company training for my cdl,
I currently have an app already with swift as that is where my buddy is and he loves it,
My problem is that my wife will be with me living in the truck, and we also have a Chihuahua so that pushes me towards knight since swift doesn't have a pet policy but we will take her on the truck anyway.
Now my Main question is what are the loads like?
Does one company have a better load count than the other? Will I get more miles with one compared to the other? My buddy at swift has told me about all his trips and how he goes and goes but every time he comes down to Tucson he is stuck for like a week. And he says its like that for at least one city in every state.
So does anybody have any suggestion, because I would rather choose a company that will help me have more miles so I can support a family in the future.
Thanks for looking here![]()

If you're living in the truck with a pet and a rider please do yourself a favor and go somewhere with APUs or a very liberal idle policy.
Prime has a pet/rider policy and APUs but many don't like them for their slow trucks.
They're one company I know of that might work better for you. -
I am in Arizona, phoenix area now, but I am relocating before I can go to school to bullhead city, across from Laughlin so having a knight terminal in Vegas helps, sorry should have said that, and I am just starting out, still need to go to school but those were the only two I knew that did their own school,
And I do want an apu, but at least with knight I know that if the truck has an apu then you can't idle, but if the truck doesn't have an AP, then your allowed to idle. So that cool on their part.
But does anybody have general knowledge of the loads to driver ratio?
Will I have more chances to get loads with swift or knight, and which company should I be looking at if I am looking to do any load and every load and possibly have another load ready as I'm going to my drop point. -
-
I forget where I read it, but with knight transportation, they have " company policy" that you are not supposed to idle of you have an apu, but if your truck isn't equiped with one then you are able to idle.

If Swift does not have a pet policy and you need to take your Chihuahua with you it would seem best to just take Swift of the table. Why are you still even considering them?
It would be stupid to put yourself in a position to get fired for braking a company policy just as you start off a new career. -
Swift does have a Pet Policy; it is no pets! Now they ignore this policy often, but none the less, that is the policy.
As far as the load count, you have a lot to learn about how this mega-company trucking works. I don't feel like explaining just right now, but I must say these companies do not have a count of freight just laying around for you to claim. That is not how it works, even though many don't realize that.Last edited: Jan 31, 2016

My previoud experience with older Carrier/Thermo King APUs (2007-2012) were they were always broken. Wouldn't turn on. No heat. No AC. Would turn on then off immediately and throw a code. I was either freezing or waking up in a puddle of sweat because truck wouldn't idle regardless of tricks.

Well I appreciate your response, I guess I worded it wrong, will one company have more chances to get loads? Will one offer more loads than the other, I feel like I want to go knight because the pet policy,
Speaking of, what do you mean they ignore pets?
