    What happens if you knowingly pull an overweight trailer and get in to accident that involves injuries?

    Yeah, he was a new employee, but not new to driving so he should know the ropes. I'd have cut him some slack on the placards because it didn't cost me anything to flip them out, but making zero effort to get things right and then his indifference when I asked was what burned my butt. Easily caught mistakes can have big consequences. I chased down another one of our drivers in St Louis a couple of months ago because the door on his rear was up. He was empty, but there were a couple of deck bars bouncing around on the floor. That's a hard one to miss even if all you do is kick the tires and check the lights.

    The way that would work at my company is that the first driver would be the one to get burned for the overweight trailer.

    I don't know how it works in Ohio and Indiana, but some states write overweight tickets to the company, while others do so to the driver.

    The second driver would have gotten ticket, but the first would have been held responsible for the fine IF his terminal had an operable scale, and much deservedly so according to what I've just read.

    One of our drivers got a $1300 ticket. He had to power swap his twin screw for a single axle. Our barn did not have a working scale. Our company picked up the tab

    No. 2400 lbs over on his drives. The officer refused to even let him correct it before he issued the ticket. The driver ended throwing his chains in the back of a trailer and hand tossing a bunch of freight away from the nose

    Yup, on company not driver. Company will pay that. We have a run where there is no terminal and it's a relay. No way to scale. You can scale it at the truckstop near the meet up but you'll have to hassle to get your money back. So they don't scale. If it's over the terminal must pay it. Only issue it goes on your record. Once or twice a year axles are overweight. Sometimes the port is cool and sometimes they issue a ticket. Fortunately it's not a moving violation.

    For those who drive single screws, beware when you see your truck with new tires all around. You'll be fighting to keep it on the highway for a few days. :mad:
