Will taking five days home time after being out a month and a half get you put on the dispatchers/planners sh list? Not that I really care that much. The company says one day off for six days off, but to them that''s probably too much.

If their policy allows it, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you're working hard and not being a pain while you're on the road

Depends on the company. There's usually a max you can take out and I think it's 5 days.

Some companies have a maximum number of days you can take too, so find out what the policy is.

What company? Most won't care, you've earned the time and your dispatcher should respect your need to unwind and take care of personal things. I've heard of companies asking you to turn in your truck if your near a terminal, and pu a different one when you come back, but I've never experienced it. I used to run 4 weeks and 6 days home, and I would just call my dispatcher 48hrs before I was ready to leave so he had time to setup my route.

I've always got home once a month and never got any grief from dispatchers. If you have a good work relationship with your dispatcher they won't care about you taking home time every month and a half. But you do need to give your dispatch a heads up a couple weeks in advance when you wanna go home then remind him every few days.

Isn't it standard 1 day for every week worked for the most part?

    For the most part, yes.

But I have had trouble getting more than 3 days of home time, no matter how long I've been out.
And that could be as long as 2 months.

One of our terminals will require you to turn in the truck if you take more than 2 days off.

And home time days do not carry over or stack up.
It resets when you come back from home time.

It isn't fair, to be sure.
But poor Zathros is used to talking to dirt and being a beast of burden.
It is our lot in life, yes.

I remember when I drove a company truck I was out 6 weeks and they were getting antsy after 4 days, home time was a day off for every week worked.

That's my usual schedule (with Crete)... 40-50 days out, 6 days at the house. And those 6 days do not include the day I get home or the day I leave so I usually wind up with closer to 7-7 1/2 days off. My AM has never given me any crap for it... probably because he knows I'm dependable and productive when I'm on the road.
