On Landline Now, there is a weekly segment regarding fuel prices. It lists the 5 States with; the highest average pump price; with lowest average pump price; with highest average cost of fuel, net of taxes, ie only what the fuel costs you, after deducting all taxes; with the lowest average cost of fuel, net of taxes. In the last category, Illinois was listed in the number 1 or 2 spot most weeks. As I run in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Iowa, and none of those States, besides Illinois were in the lowest 5, I didn't pay attention to the other 4 States, so Utah could have been the other that was lowest 2.

I am happy where I am but I had considered Prime as a lease op/owner op with my own truck. The truck had to be at most 2 years old so that wasn't an option. Their lease trucks are great but they charge you the same price you would pay if you ran your own numbers and leased it from a dealer. Getting only 72% of the revenue means you will have a tough time. The truck payments there are over 3000 dollars a month. At 100% of the rate a guy can do it but not at 72%. Not to say it can't be done but I think there are better deals out there.
Jonkie Thanks this. -
The only places I buy fuel when it's either get 50 or run out, is CA, WA, PA. And I log quite a few miles in CA. 300 gallon capacity baby.

Burn your freightliner in effigy to the trucking Gods.
This was first Mark 1 eyeball on the settings.
Be safe drivers. -
I will make this easy for you.
Do the hard work and do it the right way. Leech purchases are a scam.
The truck is not yours. You have no rights to it. You 're buying nothing. Prime does a he'll of a job brainwashing drivers that would rival any infomercial you see on TV.
Do not do it. Its a rip off. Get out while u can. -
The OP of this tread was proved to be full of crap and in turn abandoned the thread after page 5. Being a mega carrier people think prime that prime is trash like the rest of the megas, but its not a bad place to be.
I've been here 5yrs 4 1/2 company and 6 months as an o/o. I've always made good money here. I meet with my CPA last month to determine if I should S corp this year, which required that he estimate my net for 2016. He looked at my last 6 months earnings with prime and estimated my net at $129, 000 for this year, thats as a solo, now that's a CPA talking not me but the number seems reasonable. Now I'm an o/o so that 129k net is before any truck payment and my truck is paid for but that would put me around $77, 000 net if I was making lease payments. That's not bad money, but to fair my net should be higher than most because I don't take much time off.
You sure seem to have a knack for digging up some old/dead threads. And BTW looks like you're going bald.Last edited: Apr 3, 2016

Good job, most L/O fail simply because they do not know how to run a business, and quite honestly want their FM to take care of everything for them.
You know what is up and are using your abilities and smarts to get ahead. I think the smartest thing anyone can do is to save up and buy their own truck, like you. Then they are out of being underneath that large payment. I personally never understood why anyone would lease anything, why pay someone else's payment is beyond me.FullMetalJacket and nofreetime Thank this. -
That's your advice ? To make money in truck driving ? lol
