I was curious when it became ok for drivers of Volvo trucks too drive with their high beam head lights on. This is becoming a very irritating trend. I counted 14 Volvo's running High beams between Seattle and Ontatio,Or. I counted because, lets face it, behind the wheel we have that kind of time. If there is a flaw in the head lamp assembly for Volvo trucks, please take it up with youre company or truck dealer. Please stop making it everyone else's problem. Eventually you will, if you haven't already, cause an accident by blinding another driver. There is a law that states you cannot use you're high beam head lights within 500ft. of another moving vehicle. Please be more courteous too you're fellow drivers. Thank You and Safe Travels.

KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I can tell you exactly why. When I was at Sygma alot of the drivers would do the same. Apparently the newer triangle shaped headlights seem to discolor quickly making it very hard to see. I thought this was bs....till I drove one with the headlights like that. Couldn't see a #### thing with lights on low beam. Of course they were written up many times but we all know how that goes. Anyhow Sygma got smart and in their newer trucks starting to spec their new orders with the older style rectangular headlights. That's why some new Sygma trucks have the older style headlights. But I agree, high beams are dangerous and shouldn't be used like that.

That's just a generally poor design for headlights anyway, they don't even need them there on the hood and would be more effective closer to the ground.
The light covers "haze" on freightshakers too, same problem. And co's too cheap to replace them. -
I'll tell you another reason EVERYONE'S using high beams more...most of the major cities are cutting back on lighting and are simply not repairing existing lighting systems due to budget constraints. I've seen entire lighting chains shut down. If you think I'm kidding come to Houston. -
I work for Sygma running all Volvos. Dgman is right. Almost all the older style lights are killer in bad weather on low beams. You can't see anything with the low beams on.

The piece of crap halogen Volvo lights should have been recalled by NHTSA for being a safety hazard!!!
They are a unsafe design that fails quickly resulting in very very poor lighting!!!xlman78 Thanks this. -
Are you sure it's not the new ones with the LED headlights? They are wicked bright even on low.
I used to think the KW T660's were blinding until I've had some LED Volvo's coming at me. -
I get flashed all the time with my lows on. The new trucks have amazing lights. My last one was awful. Many nights I had to shut down because of fatigue due to straining to see. The brights some drive with are safer than straining to see.

Re: high beams illegal
Doubt it? Cali CVC code:
24409.

(a) Whenever the driver of a vehicle approaches an oncoming vehicle within 500 feet, he shall use a distribution of light or composite beam so aimed that the glaring rays are not projected into the eyes of the oncoming driver.
The lowermost distribution of light specified in this article shall be deemed to avoid glare at all times regardless of road contour.
(b) Whenever the driver of a vehicle follows another vehicle within 300 feet to the rear, he shall use the lowermost distribution of light specified in this article.
