Maybe a dumb question @supersnackbar but here goes.
If the planners/ dispatch show a consistent pattern of not utilizing Ur hrs fully is there not anyone at HQ up there in Fargo to lay it and explain it to?
Having never used a people net or Qualcomm don't know how back U can go to use the information in it to show them the problem. This under utilization of Ur hrs not only is costing U but also them.
Coming from where I used to sit (running a couple dozen trucks) I would be interested to see/ hear a better way.
Hope U have the opportunity to get Ur case presented to the proper person in Fargo cause they should be interested in this as its a win for both sides.

At Magnum you are welcome to talk with Management, heck a driver can bobtail to headquarters and meet with dispatch and operations - it's not a problem and many do.

I don't fully understand @supersnackbar and his issues, I want to believe them and not be unfair, but asking around his experiences are definitely not the norm. I also live outside of the normal lanes and stay out 6 weeks at times, but I tend to work with the dispatch team and try to position myself for good loads.

There is a learning curve here and our freight volumes vary like all trucking companies, I once sat in a position where I had to order trucks and depending on our production and order rates I'm sure we drove our trucking companies crazy.

Typically a driver can work with dispatch to set up a few trips at a time so you know how to best use your hours, and this may mean driving 450 a day vs 600 to set yourself up for good recaps. Other times you are doing 660 so you can drop the load in a yard and then move on...

I wish they would either resolve @supersnackbar's problems or that he would find a better fit, life is to short for him to have to be somewhere that is so stressful...

You can always reapply to Poly SnackBar .... they are now rehiring pretty much everyone that reapplies from what I'm seeing .... i just passed 17,000 miles as of last weeks
pay stub . Place is still crazy in that Poly way , but the freedom and Hometime is priceless.

They know already. When I got my evaluation call last week, he said I am averaging over 10.5k. But his figures include the unpaid 'ghost' miles they credit you with for layover. One month alone I had 2650 unpaid layover miles (6 trips that month). Now they did pay me $450 in layover (which most companies don't do when it is just slow freight) but if I had actually ran those 2650 miles, I would have made over $1100. I have 2 weeks to go before my 6 month anniversary, at the pace my padded statics show, I should have 63000 on the odometer. I'm at 56,500 (and that is hub miles, not paid miles).

When he spoke to me, he said that they are pleased with my performance, and hope I keep up the great job. WTH? 10K is GREAT for an OTR driver who stays out 4-6 weeks at a time? What have I gotten myself into here?

Sorry...I had junk equipment, and if I came back, I would most likely get worse to choose from. And after I read what was going on over on the Poly thread, it doesn't look like things would be any better than when I left as far as shipping issues and lack of available loaners. My biggest fear over there was finding myself 1000 miles away, and a major breakdown would occur. Any advantage of 50 cpm/hub gets wiped away pretty quickly when you're sitting in a motel for a week or more without pay.

Magnum is a decent company to work for. Actually, If you're a new driver not doing flatbed, I'd be hard pressed to recommend a better company.

As an experienced driver, it can be rough. It's a lot of time basically paying dues from what I can tell. Until those are paid, it's 2000-2200 mile weeks.

Dealing with shippers/receivers to get loaded/unloaded early helps.

But there are many who will string you along for 15 hours. My current pickup is tomorrow afternoon. I could have picked at 9 am today. But the last time I showed up early, they kept me there for 13 hours.

So it varies. You can make this s work and dispatch is good. They will work with you. But as Winny said, there is a steep learning curve. And I will add, that it's Magnum specific.
