Elogs and current hos are causing too many accidents!

    I was off duty at the shipper every pickup or drop. So I wouldnt have got pay. Got detention pay.

    That's good! Not everybody gets that either. Was it enough to make up for the hours you sit there? Did it make up for the time you lost that you could have been driving? If so, that's great! Everybodys situation is different- Elog works for some and doesn't work for others. That's just the long and short of it. Not trying to be impossible, just saying it the way it is.

    No way was it enough to make up for it. I realize that they dont work for everyone, though I dont see the issues with running legal, and it shouldnt be forced on everyone.

    But I dont know why everyone is getting their panties in a twist without trying them first.

    I tried them for 2 years, that's why I know they don't work for me. I have to show a profit every 3 out of 5 years to maintain my business status or I lose all my business deductions. Just cant do it sitting around. I run as legal as I can but I don't think I should be held responsible for the negligence of shippers and receivers, and I don't think any of you other truckers should be either, but you are with Elog.

    I was on them for 2.5 years. So yeah I tried them and have the tshirt. The biggest part of the problem was being at Swift with them. Swift used to tell us the pick up and delivery windows for every load, but once we got on elogs the planner would calculate the miles (short miles at that) and figure your earliest arrival. This created a problem with always racing the clock. Too high stress for me. I think I could make it work where I'm at now, just no hurry to do it.

    It does revolve around a lot of factors that are very much within the realm of control. Those that use a little more brain power in how they book stuff usually have no problems. Most of my loads, I have open ended pickup and deliveries. Of those that have a specific window time, If it is not realistic, I don't haul it and move on to another load. But usually, I have input in the window time for delivery(s). I do not haul for idiotic shippers and receivers that want to dictate stupid parameters on how I get the task done. And it is very clear from the outset... If I am delayed, they pay, and I do indeed get the pay. Made $1500 just in detention a few months ago, and that was just from 2 customers, one of them for two separate occurrences. There is plenty of blame to go around, but in the final equation, it is the driver who has the leverage. No one is forced to work for anyone or do goofy stuff that makes their life more miserable than necessary. Drive another man's truck, then if the situation is unrealistic, clean the truck out and move on. Own the truck, then start acting like it and set the parameters. If one is so desperate that they will put themselves into some goofy situation that they cannot do the job in the HOS or even with E-logs, then find another career. No different than me telling the Army I had enough after 7 years. And I left and found new work during the recession of late 70's / early 80's. Didn't want to play the Army game anymore. Trucking, or a carrier, is a heck of a lot easier to walk away from. It is just that simple, boys and girls. You can either light a candle or curse the darkness.

    If I hit the pipe enough I can stay up for 36 hours before I need a two hour nap.
    Studies show that we can drive 22 hours straight and not be fatigued.
    The government is just trying to take all our money and paint us all as evil, wake up sheeple, they're trying to abolish the trucking industry!
    Just let me drive, these Suits don't know the first thing about me or my ability to stay awake and work.

    In all seriousness, though. Some of this crap makes me legitimately laugh. There are rules and regulations for every single job (even for those of us in the office of a trucking company) that we must follow.

    In my humble opinion, those driving an 80,000 pound tractor-trailer need to be regulated stricter than those sitting at a desk. If I work a 16 hour day and fall asleep at my desk, my boss will slap me on my head and tell me to wake my ### up. If a trucker falls asleep at the end of a 16 hour day, he potentially kills multiple people.

    Probably the wrong forum for this, since about 0.0% of you guys will agree with me!

    When I leave Kingman Arizona heading east in my 62 mph elog truck, I'll have the same 10 fast trucks pass me again and again and again.
    With elogs those drivers are going to have to actually work and not goof off.
    And elogs will separate the cupcakes from the men

    It is never about abolishing anything, it is purely Machiavellian control over people, and keeping the money spigot flowing from those that lobby for different aspects of how that control gets implemented. Been that way since the dawn of human government. Nothing new here to see folks, move along. In this case, the guise of "safety" is the key word. The same thing goes on with vehicle emission stuff, they just modify the keywords to environment and health. Same story, just the names and faces have been changed to gather another group of political donors and lobbyists. One of the best political scams ever devised and all major political parties are on the take.

    But it is to be expected. As the culture has lowered its standards of morality and accountability, this the the result. Those that fail to understand history are doomed to repeat it.
