I would like to hook up a portable ac unit to a 1000 or 1500 watt inverter, the ac unit has 900 wattage and 115 voltage, will it be possible? I will only run unit when I'm stationary.

Sure it will be possible, but it will likely drain your batteries fairly quickly.
Also keep in mind that you will need to have half of it outside the truck or it won't work, and you'll want the truck relatively sealed up or it won't stay cold.Road Killer Thanks this. -
They make portable a/c units...that vent outside with a hose....like on a clothes dryer...entire unit 3ft x 1ft ...9,000btu

You need more then a 2000 watt invertor to get the a/c unit to kick in.
Everything requires a jump start which usually requires more then twice the amount of energy to get it started then it requires to keep it running. A 900 watt a/c will need over 1800 watts for that initiall jump surge.Road Killer and KriegHund Thank this. -

Even if you get the AC unit to come on, I would guess the low voltage circuit would shut the inverter down probably in less than a couple of hours. A 2000 watt inverter providing 1000 watts is pulling at least 15 amps from the batteries, and will drain them very quickly. Any inverter manufacturer website will give you the exact numbers.

It would be like running a microwave or keureg coffeemaker for hours with the truck shut off. Batteries will drain down quick. Your batteries don't like to be drained and recharged, well unless they are the marine type batteries designed to drain down and recharge.
Better off getting a small generator to run your A/C. Great thread on the O/O forum about generators and everyone's recommendation.Road Killer and tscottme Thank this. -
Here ya go:
Just add ice. I've been meaning to try this myself. If a bag of ice will last 3-4 hours, it just might be worth it.Road Killer, trucking for family and scottied67 Thank this. -
That can't possibly have any effect...no way.
Road Killer Thanks this.
