I'm no expert on these wheels, some say it's a coated finish, some say it's the type of aluminum they use,I really don't know and won't claim to,but there's two guys here in eastern iowa that polish for a living.ive seen them take these dura brites and sand them down until they're right again, then repolish them.probably not the answer you're looking for
-
Finish has to be removed?
-
That's the way they do it,and like I said they do it professionally full time.if they're pitted and dinged up that's about the only way I see to do it to make them perfect again.

Have to get to the bottom of the deepest pit or scratch . Has to be mirror smooth to look mirror smooth. Have had the company put on drives over the weekend and swapped rims, put on some the worse rims they had. Mine was the show truck. Took 2 full days hand sanding then polishing then out. Had a appearance coming up that week. Started out with 80grit , and worked up to 3000 grit, then started polishing. Had gouges that would hold a quarter!

I use windex on mine to take the road crap off,but they're still pretty new.when they start looking like butt I'll probably buy new outers.might be your best option if time and frustration is a concern.i haven't priced them lately, but for what they are,it's probably worth looking into.

Alcoa Dura-Brights are made out of the same Aluminum as any other Aluminum Wheel, except for the Coating on it which it just like Clear Coat.
Just sand them and re-polish the wheels.mitmaks Thanks this. -
I called Alcoa and asked them and they told me it is not a coating or a finish but a bonding built direct into the alluminum, if they get bad you sand and polish and they will be durabrite again.
Local detail shop said they can do them but they usually have to run them through the machine twice.
I still haven't done it to verify either. -
Huh,10 4.good to know.i had heard it both ways.did they recommend a certian way to keep them looking good while they're newer?

dish soap, water and a fine brush or sponge.
mine are 8 years old and when I take soap and water and a sponge to them, they shine like new except for my deep scratches..
