My blood pressure is borderline 140/90 sometimes a few ticks over. If i am over from what i read a 1 year medical card will be issued. Do companies have a problem with 1 year cards? I plan to go to Roehl and their in house cdl program.

    Dominick253 Thanks this.

They may or may not issue a medical card with that blood pressure. More likely, you need blood tests and EKG's and written clearance by both primary care and heart specialist. With all that you will go back to the DOT physical place and it's still up to the DOT physician what he's doing.

No issue, just annoying to keep going to a doc. Could be worst, could be a 6 month or 3 month card

Is it common for people to get 1 year cards?

I don't know how common. But consider many drivers take medication on a regular basis, also many are overweight yes? We have to be in good health AND we have to proove it all the time. IF Anything not perfect, then...

Yes, it is very common to get a 1 year card especially for hypertension which is very common in the trucking industry. You should have no problems with getting hired, and your blood pressure will be fine to get a card, the doctor will just want to see that you have it under control with medicine.

Diabetics get one year cards all the time. I have one because im on metformin. I've not heard of a company have an issue with a 1yr card. As long as you are medically cleared to do the job.

I was issued a one year card once because of a recent illness. This was in 2013 I think. When I went in for the next one, the doc (different clinic different doc) had no problem issuing a two year. All doctors seem to have their own opinions on these matters, so it can be kind of a crap shoot some times. but to answer your original question, that shouldn't affect your getting hired. . Now is this a physical you are doing on your own, or is it roehl's pre-hire physical?

I've had 2 year cards and now I'm back on one year cards... No issues from any companies I have been with or my current place. I will be on one year cards now until I retire as I had a heart attck and the meds. I'm on..
Now to lower your blood pressure, take a baby asprin the night before and one in the morning
Forget the extra strong double latte in the morning.. Cut back on the lucky strikes until after the Phy..
