Georgia loads are always crap for me. You spend half a day waiting to pick up then a whole day to get empty. If you wanna make any money at all stay the hell away from GA loads. I took a Wilson load Thursday. Took 4 hours to get unloaded in Cartersville. Backhaul from Hormel to MDI in Hickory. Hormel was a 13 hour wait. 2 1/2 days from Wilson back to Hickory. I only had to wait about an hour at Wilson which was a shocker. Wilson used to be a nice drop and hook but not so much anymore.

I picked up there Wednesday and counted 4 of us Cargo drivers. All drop and hook. In and out quickly. Pleasantly surprised.

Am I missing something here? You Guys not only have DFC's, but also make very low CPM (.38-.41) and from what I see only average 2300 or less miles a week. You gross less than $950/wk and drive to a lot of bad States (NE). Why in the world is there anyone working there?

If I am totaly off base here, please correct me. I have looked at Cargo Transporters a few times and I can not find one good reason to Drive for them. I guess my last Company spoiled me with no baby sitting, .46cpm and averaged 2500/wk. Seems like most the Companies here in NC are crap Companies, just don't pay anything or both?

Part of the reason I dont drive for cargo anymore. Though I'll run the NE any time for my current company. Hated it with cargo.

Actually I get 44¢ per mile here, and the last 6 loads I did went to MI NC KY SC TN & NC... Got 2200 miles last week while spending Tuesday night at home in my own bed and getting home at noon on Friday. I had to be off duty by noon Friday for plans I won't bore you with... Got to the terminal at 11:50 am, right on time like I asked for.

I've only been with this company for a short time... In fact I've only lived in NC for about 2 months. It's too soon to say if I like working here or not, but so far everything has gone well. And hopefully it continues. I'm maintaining a positive attitude, despite all of the cynicism in this thread.

By the way, I'm from the Northeast. It's not so bad there ;)

Well as you can see I started this thread in the GOOD headlines. When I first came here I was very pro Cargo. Just read through this thread and you can see. G was also very pro CT when he started. But you will see our attitudes change as they progress. Your experience at CT will depend a lot on who your dispatcher is. They more than anything will determine how well you like CT. CT has some nice things about it. Free fridge, Sat TV, Newer Trucks, Pretty good shop, pretty decent pay to name a few. My problem with it is the lack of Miles and wait times mostly. Call me a crybaby all you want but LESS than 2000 miles on a regular basis for a so called OTR driver is BS! When I almost never refuse a load and leave on Sunday there is no good reason you can't get at least 2000 miles! Also FREE work is a problem. Case in point.

About 3 weeks ago I got unloaded in Rocky Mount. Get a message to come to Claremont yard and they would get me another load. That was 176 Miles I drove to Claremont absolutely FREE! Now this week... I got home about 9pm Saturday night so this week I'm leaving on Tuesday. Now here's what I'm dealing with. I call Tuesday morning around 9am. Was asked if I wanted a Naperville, IL load to drop and hook then head up to Milwaukee and get my back haul to Charlotte, NC. Ummm hell yes!! I never get these good loads with lots of miles. I'm always PA or OH which usually are between 450 to 550. So I was excited. Looks like a nice check next week! Well that went to hell in a hand basket! He say's I'll call you back around 1500. So he never called so I called him. I'm still working on it just go ahead and get to your truck he said. So when I get in my truck I have a message and a load. The load to Naperville was never mentioned. My load is now Statesville to pick up then to Southeastern Freight in Greensboro for a 4am delivery. My message said when I am done to come to Claremont yard for another load. So I'll get to drive 75 miles back to Claremont for FREE to get a load to PA or OH. This is why I'm job hunting when I have time.

They're not paying you to go to the yard anymore? Granted it was book miles when I was there. Still got paid to go the yard

Have you thought about trying Abilene Motor Express?

I have talked to them awhile back I think. I have to have an Auto shift truck because my lower back is in bad shape and shifting is very rough on me so that is a must. My wife will not let me stay out more than a week or I have to hear chin music. So it's about finding the shoe that fits. I'd love to stay at CT but I don't think it will change. There were 3 of us CT drivers at Valspar today. I got 1756 miles last week. Another driver got 1586 and another driver got 2867. Some do well and some not very good at all.

Abilene is all automatic, but if you need to be home every week, you will run NE only if you're out of Richmond. I don't know if Wytheville is closer to you, but regional with that terminal might be an option if you're closer to there. Pay is not as much as CT, though. In the end you have to do what's right for you.
