I had to do a parked regen in the bitter cold of northern Wisconsin. Took forever and would not finish. I had to stop it and move somewhere out of the wind and it then only took 35 minutes. That was after 8 hours of trying it before. It never got hot enough with the wind blowing.

plus if the fan is on, you lose power, A/C being on(just assuming) and its active regeneration triggered from a higher soot load in the filter, then it injects fuel too, it needs to maintain its temperature to keep doing what it needs to do to accomplish a lower soot load. if its passive regenning then you wouldnt notice it

I've had 2 trucks with regen and we could always tell when they went into a passive regen when driving at freeway speed because the tone if the engine/exhaust would change.... more of a raspy soundCaptainDaveG Thanks this.

I believe the passive regen (speeds above 50 miles per hour) will cancel operations at speeds below 50. So in other words I don't see how regen would affect your shifting except maybe in the top 2 gears or something.
Now if it was in the middle of a parked regen when rpms are idled up high to create exhaust heat, then you tried to drive off, yes maybe the engine fan would activate having a slight effect on shifting there.
For mine, the book says, make sure cruise and jakes are turned off, lights are on, A/C is on, of course, brakes are set then push the regen button for parked regen. I have seen it go on as little as 15 minutes to complete all the way to two hours to complete always in 15 minute increments. Most of the time in the 45 minute to 60 minute time for a parked regen on my 2010. The times it went on for 2 hours it was putting out an ungodly cloud of brown sooty smoke that looked like a volcano of smoke poison. I was a few hundred yards away seeing this and wondering how big my EPA fine was going to be just to be compliant with the EPA -
Yes, it will affect your RPMs. Generally only affects me coming off the highway though. Before the truck has realized I am slowing down.
