I rarely post here, but I read A LOT pf posts here about a variety of subjects. I really enjoy reading the stories people tell about their training and then about the things that happen to them on the road. I was wondering if you guys, or ladies, knew of any books about truck driving. I would prefer they be true stories, but if it's a good fiction book, that will be ok too. I'm currently reading a book I found on my iPad iBooks app called, "Interstate: Confessions of a Rookie Truck Driver". I think it's pretty good and only cost $2.99 so definitely worth the money to me. I should finish it in the next day or so though and will need something else to read. So anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You are asking truckers for literary recommendations?

I realize that, by now, the OP has finished the book he was reading, but here are two to consider -- they're nonfiction. You can find them at Amazon.

--"Truck Stop" by Marc F. Wise and Bryan Di Salvatore
--"A Thousand Miles From Nowhere -- Trucking Two Continents" by Graham Coster

You can also just go to Amazon > Books > Interstate Trucking and start looking around.

I just finished "The Big Rig" by Steve Viscelli; I recommend it, though it is expensive. Most nonfiction books about truck drivers, the life, and the trucking industry are academic: economics, sociology, history.

I got a book from a relative called "Trucking" by Andy Craig. Author was a pioneer trucker in western Canada back in the early 30's. Lots of historic pictures and its written very well. Its basically written as if he were describing taking a trip from Vancouver up into the BC interior, pointing out landmarks and sharing stories along the way. I definitley recommend it.

It's available (at Amazon) and it's good; it's super-expensive. There's also "Pedal to the Metal" by Lawrence J. Ouellet. Ouellet drove for a few years -- so did Belzer. PttM is academic sociology, but it's a good read and it's informed by his driving experiences, so it's not really dry. Turns out there are quite a few books about drivers and driving. "Truck Stop" remains one of my favorites.
