In lieu of autopay I use online banking, when a bill comes in (most by email) just set it up to pay on the day it's due. They don't need the ability to withdraw what they like or charge a card as they please. Been there done that. Never again.
Months ahead on paying business and personal bills.

When I bought my land, I had to wire the money to a lawyer, I had the money in TAB bank, the old Flying J bank. I downloaded a form and faxed it back to them.
That was scary how little info I needed and how easy it was to do. -

All my bills are paid until 10/30/2016 except my water bill, which i pay the old fashion way with a stamp and money order as my local municipal wants a stupid convenience fee if i use a debit card.

Most of my bills come every month and there's no way to pay until they make out the bill. I'd love to pay the internet and phone and electric for the whole year and just forget about it.

Try a year.
Our water bill came to around 500 to 900 a year when were home, but a pittance when we are not. Kind of hard for the town water dept to bill montly on 10 gallons a month to the house. So... 500 paid to start. 6 months later check on it. Pay more.
Once a tree a big walnut 5 feet across broke the old water line cost something like 20,000 then 26,000 and finally 35,000 gallons when our normal at home was 3000. Water company wrote it off because a bulk of it goes to the aquifier below our feet about 400 feet down anyhow.
Electric company is levelized. Twice a year the state pays a certain amount for heating and cooling kilowatts to keep it down. Levelized means that whatever you burn in 12 months is averaged and then billed to you at that average plus or minus dollars you don't burn in the new year. When I get my bill I not only get a bill for this month but know what will be coming out the next month as well on a particular due date without regard to what I am actually burning.
Everyone else will just have to wait until we got home to get the bills before we paid em. We enjoy a nice slow way of life here in the deep south and they gets their moneys sometime. The key is communication. Unlike the neurotic yankees back home who will simply file to garnish your *&^%.
