Spyder, I looked at a glider truck today, 12.7 200k miles...engine blown. I've read on here that some of those glider engines get built with after market parts...cylinder packs, crank, cam, injectors even the head. Those prices you are quoting are quite a bit lower than a local independent told me. I do trust this guy with the work. He is the only independent in this area who I would let touch an engine. He told me 10-12k for a basic inframe generally. He also said that if I wanted to go back genuine Detroit, it would be more if that engine is full of after market parts. He says Detroit won't touch them for cores, so I would have to pay core charges on basic everything that I replaced. What's your thoughts?
I'm probably going to back out on the truck btw. It looked pretty rough for a 4 y/o 200k mile truck. I didn't even look up the salesman, just walked around it and looked in the door..and left.
What truck do you own

If he wants 12 grand for a basic in frame he is raping you. It's 25 book hours and under 2 grand in parts. Oem parts. The only cores on an inframe is the cylinders because of precious metals. I think i paid 400 bucks in core charges. I just did this a little less than 2 years ago so know what oem parts for a 12.7 cost. I bought everything from tampa freightliner and while i may get a little discount from dealing with then for so many years, it isn't gonna be that big of a discount.Arky Thanks this.

I called up CAT in Missoula, Montana about an inframe (platinum) he quoted me at $23,000. That was with the warranty, without the warranty it was $17,500. This was for a 6NZ.

That's really cheap. @skateboardman just did his a while back in Texas and it was right at 30k if i remember right. I'm sure he will be along to clarify.

There are a lot of upgrades you can and should do to a platinum overhaul. oil cooler (might be included), air compressor, turbo, cut counter bores. the list just goes on and on.

It was 28,807.25 cents, that with turbo's, oil cooler, all 3 iva assembly's replaced, all new idler pulleys, stationary pulleys and every hose replaced, 4 year unlimited mile warranty

So not quite 30 grand but #### close.

They did let me slide with the .25 cents. No joke, the guy said, don't worry about the quarter.RStewart Thanks this.

did you get that truck at the Frieghtliner in Pompano?

That $6,500.00 is at Detroit for the step 1 overhaul. I should have done that 2 years ago on the Pete that is my avatar. All the upgrades to a step 1 had been done except changing the head. New turbo, water pump, fuel pump and injectors. Worst case scenario, $8,500 for overhaul with 100,000 mile nationwide warranty. Can't beat it.77fib77 Thanks this.
