But doesn't the only safety feature in the cab keep the driver strung up against his seat?

I'm curious as to where the wood on ground came from. Did the trailer rupture (part of his load)or did he nail some trees on his way down?

Here is what I seen. If you lay down a big rig and it goes over onto the roof and continues to go over and over, the people or persons inside will break a bone on contact with anything with each roll like a clothes in a dryer. Break break break break break break break......

Once or twice I think the belt did hang people. But it might have been to do with that locking device back there over your left shoulder more than anything.

The wood is from the posts the guard rail was mounted to.

That's the guard rail. In that area the guard rails are Wood and metal.

I remember when gaurdrails were posts driven in the ground with hundreds of feet of double or triple steel cabling.

Run into one, pull 10 and be wrapped fit to cut in half with those old things. I cannot recall why they stopped using cable and post probably because the new rails were easily replaced by highway crews in a hour or two.

Back when I was in high school, I drove my parents car into one of those at a rather high rate of speed. Car spun around and dragged along one of those cables backwards for about 800 feet. The cable cut through the passenger side of the car, about 1.5' inside the car.

I walked away with no injuries. At all. But if I had a passenger, they'd have been either dead or very hurt.

I like to think that's why they went away.

Yea and those big old BARRELS black and white instead of traffic cones and orange schnider babies today. (No offense please Pumkins...) you had a barrel chest to qualify to throw a few dozen at the work site.
