Back in the 80S there weren't nearly as many laws as there are now mostly for trucks I imagine, now you can't even breathe without ppl jumping to the wrong conclusions.

We were told to be in California in 10 days and here is your payroll when you did make it on time or better yet, early.

Now all fleets with satellite comms generate a list of those drivers whose average speed is slower than a certain chosen Fleet Average say.. 45 mph. And are running late to a account prior to 5 am so that phone calls can be made and the driver collared to CALL IN. Like right now. It may or may not be their last day at work depending on the conversation that does take place.

FFE paid me 30 to 50 a tractor to go recover them all over the Dallas Metroplex. So many angry drivers quit leaving the tractor in a poor condtion requing a very strong pretrip that is focued on detecting stabotage or terrorist related attack on the next person to drive the tracto.. (That is me.. why did I volunteer for a few dollars in a otherwise boring day waiting?

The sat-comm minimal would contain pages upon pages of rant send tot he dispatcher who does not have time to read and take action against the indivual in question. Sometimes the quitting driver has become very angry and loses his bearing. Then generate written veiled or obvious terrorist threatening against the life of the dispatcher involved in the dispute. Texas has a force in several layers of the Law everywhere.

I'll tell a story from when I was operating my POV perfectly sober when I was 17 driving in Darien CT. I was speeding 40 in a 35 and got pulled over going to see my girlfriend. Officer asked to search my car a 2 door Saturn. I refused the search and asked him politely to get a warrant to do so. He brought a drug dog that "alerted" so he had probable cause. That officer searched and searched. He took seat covers off, removed door panels, I swear he wanted to rip the carpet up. He found nothing. Not a single thing was found because I was sober, and didn't do drugs. I sat on the curb in January in CT while he did it. He told me I was free to go without reassembling my car. So I made him sit for four hours while I put my car back together, replaced all my personal items in the car etc. he cost me a good night that night and I planned on making his night miserable.

True, none of us was there so we dont know what triggered this officer to check the truck.I was searched twice during my career at the Canadian border didn't bother me.Took 5 minutes total. One of those searches asked what was on those tapes which was movies I recorded. With all the terror in our country I can't blame officers for being cautious and keeping America safe. Its when you resist is what causes concern. It this case I'm thinken the officer could smell the liqueur when she opened her mouth.Otherwise why would the officer just happen to have found the wine. With 12 yrs exp she should have known better..She makes it sounds like she's the victim, all her years of service means nothing to tnis industry etc ect,and she's just now realizing this???? Oh please!!!!!!! Follow the rules or find another line of work.

The way the officer found it was the driver told the officer the open box of wine was there. She has only one glass of wine before bedtime. I mean the facts are all right there in the first post.... not sure where you got the idea the officer could smell liqueur when she had wine and it was over 10 hours before?

Just curious, how did you make him wait while you reassembled your car's interior? What was stopping him from getting into the squad car and driving off?
