What i would do is pick it up and run it out to the customer, send the appropriate Arrival macro on the qualcomm so my company knows I arrived, then log a few minutes On Duty to represent getting into the docks, then log Sleeper and set alarm for 0600 go check in still in Sleeper, get assigned dock, back up get unloaded all logged Sleeper, pull off dock go park on street if the customer does not have parking, still logged Sleeper until that magic 8 hours in teh Sleeper then log a few more minutes On Duty and send Empty macro. Then have picked up legal hours to go get your next load. Everybody is happy, including the DOT Officer who believes ELD's are uncheatable.
We as Truck Drivers have to keep this country moving. The ELD is a direct slap in the face to American ingenuity and our Can Do spirit. I cannot believe this is the same country that won World War II one two fronts.
OK popcorn time as the wave of koolaid IV drip drivers who have been fully thought control indoctrinated come in and declare drivers who finesse their logs should be in maximum security prisons.
How do they schedule loads?

Remember, kids. Every time you cheat your elogs, a busload of nuns runs into a schoolbus, erupting into a fireball that destroys an animal shelter full of adorable kittens.

Wait does he roll the dice to consult the Ouija board, or does he roll dice and consults the Ouija board.
I think if it's the second one, you might have the anti Christ as a dispatcher.....Lepton1 and 6daysontheroad Thank this. -
Generally they dispatch you at a slower speed. They believe this will include any of these unforeseen events and your available hours of service. It usually works, but you have to be careful. If you can't, or don't think, you are going to make it, be sure to contact your dispatch before you show up late. Believe me, it's a lot better before than after.

Swift has a dispatching system called Plus 1.
Plus 1 is a calculated program that figures the miles to destination times x amount of miles per hour minimum time to get there. The scheduling is extremely tight. The idea behind Plus 1 is to get your plus 1 load per week if you run the program to the letter. The problem with it is it can cause service failures if the driver hits a bad traffic event or if the truck stop was 50 miles short of the 11 hour driving limit or some such.
Another problem with it, it may have a delivery time at say 0200 AM (due to minimum time to get there) but the customer doesn't open til 0700AM which creates inefficiencies for the driver who gets there at 0200 and sleeper til 0630 checks in and docks, his 14 is all screwy. Otherwise the driver must falsify an 8 hour Sleeper starting at 0200 whilst getting unloaded at 0700, perhaps getting breakfast at the roach coach and using the facilities all of which are outside the legal status that Sleeper dictates the driver must be if logging such. If the driver chooses to follow the letter of the law may very well log a violation getting off the customer's property plus miss a load that morning and have to sit til the following morning for a new load all of which defeats the purpose of stupid Plus 1Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Reefer loads are strict appts for the driver. Those cold store warehouses dont care what time or day they finish with you though.
My next truck driving job wont include reefers...or anything to do with brokers -
I do reefer and its very strict apps times. You late, theyll charge your company up to 100$ per hour. But if you know youre going to be late, just tell them and no big whoop.
-
Back when I pulled reefers I sometimes wondered if it was against the law for an appointment to be outside of 11PM to 3AM lol

What you have here is good advice. This is the way to protect your 70 hour clock. It is your choice to do so or not. When I get all preachy it is when the company tells you to do it that way. The logs are yours.
Most companies log at a certain speed. Most log at 50 miles per hour. So 300 miles is 6 hours. 1200 miles is 24 hours or 3 days plus 3 hours. They all use a computer program to figure it out therefore none of it is real world. We are coming up on Snow Season. Roads get closed. As long as you report back in as to what is happening you will be fine.
Now here is the really important part. Whenever you cannot make the run do to physical problems or road conditions and you have the ability to use the qualcomm or another means of written communication with your company use the phrase, "Do to safety concerns for myself, my cargo, and the public, I cannot deliver the load on time. Please reschedule the delivery time." Once that phrase is put in the courts have ruled that any pressure brought on you by you company is Illegal. If you are fired, expect back pay.mattschwartz01 Thanks this. -
I've done it a lot
PU/del during my 10
I used to do a load Cummings Janesville WI to dynacraft Louisville
Get there at 10am go on break, they call the truck about 3 or 4 saying to back into dock so and so
They load you, do the paperwork, then you move away from the dock to finish the 10.
Dangerous as hell
About 2 am you're on nodding off at the wheel.
If you griped, you suffered.
