Hey gang I know this may sound like a dumb question but I am still learning the ropes here.
I have a big rig that is registered as a non commercial truck. I don't do hauling of any kind nor do I profit in any way from driving the truck. I've had extensive conversations with Pennsylvania Dot and realize that I don't need a DOT number for what I do. My question now is do I need an IRP cab card?
In the research that I've done it seems to only apply to commercial trucks with apportioned plates. The registration card I have on my truck it's like the registration you find for a pickup truck. Standard "truck" plate on it as well.
I do plan on visiting some family outside of Pennsylvania and I just wanted to make sure I can legally drive the truck across state lines if I don't have a cab card. Can anyone shed some light? Do I need one or will I be okay without one?
Do I need an IRP cab card for non commercial use?

You can usually cross state lines for your intended purpose with the registration you have but if you have three or more axles on the tractor be prepared to buy a fuel permit.

I know a few RV'ers that have "NOT FOR HIRE" on their trucks. They have all said they don't stop at scales, don't do logs, and are not bound by commercial rules as long as the not for hire is clearly visible.
