Whoever told you that is an idiot(or a shop that wants your money) . Do oil samples and look for nickel, tin, and a couple other soft metals. The ONLY place soft metals are found in an engine is the bearings. Now that being said, if you are doing the work yourself they are cheap enough to just replace. 300 bucks or so for the lower bearing kit.

My last 2 speedco samples are showing tin going up. They don't check for nickle. My oil psi have been dropping. Yea I called a priced the parts. Rods 218 mains 350? Pump was 512.

Ouch that's high. Glad i have a detroit.
77fib77 Thanks this. -
I think we should trade trucks.

Nah, would be a pain to wire that cab for a detroit. Now if i could find a coronado with a blowed up 12.7, for the right price id buy that sucker up and slap my engine in it. That would be a good weekend project.BoostedTeg Thanks this.

Actually, it doesn't run the board until someone decides they want it. Then it runs in order of getting empty, or projected empty time. Sometimes you get the load, sometimes the guy ahead of you jumps on it. We've grabbed loads when we were 14th place in line (because everyone in front of us declined it) and we've not gotten loads that we were 2nd in line for because the number 1 guy jumped on it. But hey, then we were number one in the area.

rod bearings still gotta come off to push the rod and piston out. But as long as you don't drop them in the dirt you can use them.Last edited: Oct 28, 2016

Those Speedco tests aren't that accurate from what I've been told. I've also been told that because of the machine they use it's easy to get your oil contaminated from another person's sample. Not sure if any if that is true, but that's what I've been told.

I took a paid sample and a speedco sample. My paid samples cost about 30 per sample. They where almost the same small number difference in both

Your better off getting the work done. If the engine locks up on you , your done.
