I've never had my license checked by any shippers in California or any scales in some of the western region.

I didn't even know about the new rules until I picked up my first load. I thought the office was full of crap.

I'm the only one that hauled the tote loads since I was the only driver to have any endorsements. Everyone else they've ever hired had just a plain cdl. No endorsements

That's the thing with the place where I'm at now. They're a refrigerated carrier who uses "no hazmat" as a big recruitment plus, so few drivers here have any endorsements at all. But I hope they keep hauling their freight because it's good miles and fast on/off freight for the drivers (me at least)

Reefer with hazmat is a real bonus. Some loads need temperature protection as Hazmat.

I remember one in particular. Loaded a front half with hazmat and then put food in the back half with a bulkhead in between. Ive always wondered about that one.

I turned in my Hazmat endorsement one day when Dispatch would not stop pestering me about the precious time lost using legal and lawful hazmat route bypasses AROUND large cities. That shut em up.

Lepton1 and Rusty Trawler Thank this.

My company has their niche carved out and long ago decided they would not prep for hazmat hauling, and that's fine. Do what works and don't open the door for more hassles if you don't need to.

I'm sure a lot has to do with tthe insurance required to haul hazmat. it's pretty expensive. Compared to standard freight insurance.

I picked up a load of class 3 combustible this week in totes
The shipper only asked me if had hazmat/tanker
    Load is sloshing like crazy
Now I remember why I hated tanker.

    BostonTanker and Lepton1 Thank this.

I had to get my hazmat and tanker endorsements to carry plastic totes with different chemicals. The were square and always a full TL.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Something else to keep in mind with these, is that empty totes that formerly contained hazmat are still hazmat unless one has paperwork in their possession certifying that they were cleaned and purged.

Wow. Just get the endorsement. All of the endorsements require a simple written test, with the exception of hazmat. Just do it.

If you don't have all the endorsements, then you're not a professional.

    Except P. If you're younger than 65 and you don't have P, then you're OK. :)

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
