Yes it can be done. Don't think in terms of more miles more money, but less miles more money.
    Work smart, not hard.

    Thats the key right there.

Based on my example earlier....$1.39 was the optimal (NOT BREAKEVEN) to hit his quoted $230K @ 3,300 miles a week.

If cpm is higher, and his goal is $230K, then of course mileage will be lower.

this is the same reason some L/O are getting rammed with the shaft, where they are promised miles but end up getting low rates, so guess what, they have to run, run, run, run....to the ground...

If you can get $2.10/mile then you only need to hit 109,500 miles / 50 weeks = 2,190 miles / week or 500 miles / day to get the mentioned $230K/year

    FYI...$2.10/mile @ 165K miles per year (3,300/week) = $346K/year Gross

L/O's are not O/O's. They are told where and when to go.
In my experience the key to making money is the ability to negotiate rates, keeping operating costs as low as possible.

230k a year gross is way low for tanker work even if you are under their authority pulling their trailer. I would keep calling and find a better place.

Did not mean to come across in the wrong way, lol. Just didn't want anyone reading this to confuse the two. Some people do.

But as someone earlier said, Gross is meaningless for any contest. Unless you compare tankers to tankers, vans to vans, mileages to mileages, and if you leased or under your own authority.

I know someone with this motto painted on the back of his sleeeper. He demonstrates it, and it's something I'm slowly learning, but he's had a lot more practice.

I'll get to find out my average all miles figure when I get home - hope I made any improvement over last year. My initial goal was @fortycalglock 's figure. A couple of months I hit it, but the averages temper the good months.

Stick around OP - you can learn a lot here, for free. I did, and still do.

Yes you can but it will take time to get there.

However don't expect to keep a lot of that money, if you make $200k, you could easily keep 80k but that is still work.

The problem with much of this is the company driver mentality forces one to think in miles, while those who are making really good money think in terms of total revenue of a load.
