Let's say for example I want to get home to Greenville, SC this weekend, and I have a coast to coast delivery I'm taking from Lompoc, CA scheduled for a Friday night delivery in Jacksonville, FL. Does my company let me drive the company truck up to Greenville, SC over the weekend for a little hometime? How close to home do you already need to be before they will let you drive home? Do they pay you for these miles?
How does hometime work?

Depends totally on the company
tscottme Thanks this. -
What did your company say when you asked them ?
-
That depends on the company if they will paid you.
If it's on the way and you will not be late, it shouldn't hurt. Maverick paid me to go home if they gave me a load that had some free time. -
What did your company say when you asked them...and when did you ask them?
-
It's all part of trip planning
Pretty easy thing to do ! -
Most likely no.
Quick check shows 370/387 miles from Jacksonville to Greenville.
But as others have said it will depend on the company. -
Most companies will try and dispatch you on a load that goes as close to home as possible, if it's an Otr fleet that allows you to take the truck home. They will have a minimum distance from your house that they allow you to deadhead. In general, the larger the company, the harder it is to get them to relax this distance.
49ersTrucker and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
Driver you don't work on hometime. You will sleep the first 48 hours. Spend the next day doing chores, then be back on the road.

40 miles and a buck.
