I want you to have your hub miles, OOR, your 50-100 over and the choice of opting out of the per diem pay scam. There is plenty of fat that can be cut to make up for the companies cost. The drivers should not have to give up a tax break that was designed for workers in the transportation industry. It was not supposed to be a profit making scheme for trucking companies, and this is just one more reason the 16th Amendment needs to be repealed and the federal income tax flushed down the Potomac and made impossible.
Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

Without meaning to take anything away from what you wrote, that's just a tiny ripple within the per diem tsunami of downsides for the driver. In a nutshell, the tax code lets trucking companies categorize a sizable portion of driver compensation as food reimbursement rather than earned income. Applying the fancy name "per diem" to it (instead of the plain-English "food reimbursement") goes a long way towards confusing drivers.
Oh sure per diem is technically for more than just food, but the fact of the matter is, OTR drivers already have a massive meal deduction they can subtract from earned income to get that same tax savings without having to sacrifice a dime of earned income. In other words drivers pretty much have nothing to gain from per diem, and a whole bunch to lose. -
the scheme is our monetary system and taxes to begin with, start questioning that and maybe somthin would change, for now i like to get the most i can get now, and thats why i like perdiem, i dont focus as much on retirement, i focus on things i can do throughout my life even when im older, not crawling up in the corner of a nursing home to die. why hasnt bill gates "retired"?,why hasnt willie nelson "retired"? ive worked with older truckers who could "retire" but havnt, "retire" for what is the question. do the amish retire with a 401k lol!Last edited: Jan 23, 2017

"More money in your pocket!" And yeah, why all the fuss about financial independence? Hardly seems worth bothering with.

so whats the reason for not liking per diem, is it because it affects future earnings, future earnings for what? to not have to do what your doin now? if you dont want to do what your doing now why wait, take all you can get from per diem and go do somthin you want to do lol

Okay , I mentioned 6 pro's imo , you don't like the 401k set up. I understand there are many that don't like it. Fact is though there is about 65 companies of a 100 these days bragging on a 401k that pays 25cents on the dollar , 6 yrs ago Stan Koch Daughter in orientation bragging about a 401k that pays a measly 6% on the dollar up to 6%. I almost barfed on her 300 dollar shoes.
As you picked apart the part you wanted to trounce on you made no mention of the 5 other pro's, why not ? -
Poly doesn't "pay" per diem. They subtract the $63/day from your gross pay before calculating your tax deductions(on paper). It not only reduces the tax you have deducted, but it also reduces the amount of employer contributions to FICA. It also lowers the Social Security earnings reported thus lowering your Social Security benefits at retirement...hence the generosity on the 401k match.

Hey dude , just left the house the 3rd of Jan at 5 pm , 5th was in Grand Prairie , left there on the 5th with only 5 hrs to drive , 6th and 7th up to NJ , in time to kill a 34 restart before delivering on Monday the 9th , down to VA the 10th and back to GP the 12th. left out the 12th back to NJ by 1830 Sat the 14th , another 34 and del'd Monday , but they threw me for a loop , didn't move me till Tuesday , up to Boston out loaded to our plant in SC , for Thurs afternoon and Friday mornin pu 88 miles away back to GP , arrived Saturday afternoon and left 1600. Landed in Greenfield IN by 1930 Sunday for a 0730 Mon delvry and home at Noon today. 9200 miles 5hrs short of 21 days with 2 34hr restarts and a missed day waiting on BH. You can make money even at 68. All in all deducting the 4 days from the 21, 9200 miles in 17 days. so actually if it was a tad high , it was just a tad.

Have you recent;y read the laws pertaining to how social security is calculated ?
-
Here's how social security is calculated
- First, a worker’s previous earnings are restated in terms of today’s wages to reflect wage growth.
- Second, earnings for the highest 35 years are averaged and divided by the number of months in 35 years to arrive at Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME).
- Third, the Social Security benefit formula is applied to AIME to produce the Primary Insurance Amount (PIA), the benefit payable at the Full Retirement Age (FRA).
maninthemoon1 and 28 Thank this.
