I think you could find lots of weekend shunt work in the GTA, just start looking on-line or in the Toronto Sun. I dont think you would need to go to the US.Good luck.

This is how certain people get into Canada.( I was told about this "easy way in" years ago by a retired service Canada worker .who was really pd off that it happens in ON & BC and the higher ups don't care)..get a student visa that allows a certain amount of hrs to be worked when at school ,this allows you to train for class1,,I have no problem with this BUT very soon schooling is forgotten and an open work permit is applied for /given and then you have a new class 1 driver. The easy answer to this very well known cheat is to make it law that if you come on a study visa you cant change it to an open visa. and before I'm called a racist I was an immigrant ,now citizen and I did it the hard LEGAL way it costs a fortune but well worth it to be scots Canadian .

 

You are someone that came here and is a net contributor to the tax system. I have a problem when people come here and end up being parasites on the government teet. I think it's fine to help people get started, but sometimes it doesn't work, and we should draw the line somewhere. I know I'm supposed to feel bad for people from far reaches of the world who have a horrible existence and come here for a better life, but we cannot take care of them all. We never will be able to. Even taking a few million a year is a drop in the ocean.
