Now it makes sense. Your loads are a lot scarier than mine. As a result they have to be hauled by a different class of carrier. As a broker I wouldn't touch your freight with a 40 foot pole. Do you know how many loads I have to do to buy a load of berries? Losing one would take out a massive chunk of my entire year.

You aren't getting that kind of money hauling the cheaper and more stable produce. For good reason. The load value and the risk is also why the customer isn't using brokers as much as mine.
You guys hauling for Dole? I was in with them briefly in 2014 when I was unaware of how dumb brokering berry loads was. I learned really quick on the first load that went sideways. I was super lucky and didn't get a claim lol.

Some straight, some mixed. They do pay for each extra picks, not enough but better than nothing

Yeah somehow I doubt you'd willingly go to a shed 30 miles away and wait 2+ hours to get loaded for 50 bucks. Just a guess.

I'm in with a couple of good produce brokers and always their first call. I go to the same sheds and receivers all the time. Rarely any drama.

What kind of produce are you hauling? It can't be potatoes/onions/melons/pumpkins/carrots/celery. Berries/Bananas/Salad/ something more exotic maybe?
