Excellent point. Like don't ask don't tell. I just asked again and was told company policy is no line 5 while under dispatch. But, crxdc was right on line 5 under mt...as long as you're not under dispatch.

Found a place to park on the street making my original worries moot. But I am under dispatch.

The last QC update did that. It goes from when you release the brakes. POS. Once released the five minute timer kicks in. Did I say POS?

If you release the brakes at 29 minutes and then sit for a few before taking off it will backdate the time to put you in violation. POS.

The solution is make sure you manually change the status on the POS.

Man that really sucks. My stomach drops every time I see someone backing to the blindside. It's probably because I'm so bad at it myself. But in my eyes it's such a open door to bad things happening...
Sorry that ### hit you man.

What is even more irritating is that he didn't even need to blindside to get into that spot. He just didn't want to flip a u-turn in the lot and take it down the left side.

A big pet peeve of mine is where it takes the entire 11/14 for 3 days straight to deliver and delivery place is where I'm gonna run out of time but no nearby parking.

Last load was into South San Francisco. Luckily right next door was an abandoned warehouse with docks out back. Unfortunately the docks were made for 40 foot trucks, couldn't make it so had to back out into the street, turn around and back in from the street but no one bothered me for the time I was there, perfect temperature for sleeping.

The thing about line 5 is the law gives the basic criteria for it, but companies can add to the rule. They just can't take away from the rule. Same with any other rules.

With that said, I would have just lined 5 to the yard. But, like @crxdc i use so rarely that I never get called.

To clarify the line 5 rule.

If you are bob-tailing to run around doing errands, that is perfectly fine. It is called personal conveyance.

Dropping a trailer ANYWHERE and then bob-tailing is line 5....As long as you are not doing work related stuff. You must show dropping and then re-hooking on line 4 before and after bob-tailing.

Pulling an empty trailer after unloading when you run out of hours at a receiver and they don't let you stay there is line 5 ONLY IF: you are completely empty AND you do not have a pre plan. You can use line 5 to drive to the CLOSEST safe haven. So, you cannot del in OKC and line 5 with a trailer to Sapulpa as there are numerous safe havens in OKC.

FYI.....logs pulls a report each day that flags ALL line 5 activity. You cannot hide line 5 from safety, thrur will know. CYA and note everything in comments. As long as you do it properly, you'll be fine.

Contracts have been termed for abusing it/using it incorrectly. JCT will not back you up. When DOT does their audit at JCT, they look at all line 5 activity. It is an 11k fine to JCT for EACH infraction. They are strict on it, but if used correctly, no problem.

Guys have tried to go from Sapulpa to Ochelata to preserve their 34 hour breakand had their contracts terminated.

My suggestion is, if in doubt, call Tracy and ask. If after hours, do what you think is right, document, and call during business hours. Better to come forward than trying to "hide"it. 11k a pop is no joke and they won't put up with it.

Concerning the e-logs and breaks. Latest DOT rule makes you take your full break (30 min, 2, 8, 10, 34 hr) before break is complete. That means you cannot roll 1 minute before break is complete as the clock will start. You won't see it on Q-comm until you hit the 25 mph mark and have driven over 25 mph for 1 full minute.

So, if you roll at the 9hr 59 min mark and move for 3 minutes in parking area before you hit the road, you're screwed. The way around that is easy. If you do move before your complete break, and putt putt for 3 min, all you have to do is change your status and it locks it in right there. You can only do this once. After you change your status, you have to wait 5 minutes before you can change again. Example: at Sapulpa. You start towards the gate at 9:57, stop at gate, get checked, then roll 4 minutes later, your break won't be complete as you moved before the 10 hr. But, if you do the above and roll to the street, then change your status to something else (not line 3), it will lock you in and now your break is 10:01 and your drive will start from that point.

No need to approve logs to lock you in. Doing that takes away any editing possibilities you may need later on in the day. Only approve once you are positive you don't need to edit.

I know it' sounds confusing, but it takes practice.
