Wow. I'm lucky. Almost ten years driving civilian and military trucks and never had brakes freeze up on me.
Saturday Thanks this. -
Everyone here understands that the ABS light on the trailer has to illuminate every time you apply power (Turn the key or plug in the trailer to a running tractor) right? And that if it doesn't illuminate or if it only illuminates when you press the brake pedal (Usually a blown tractor fuse), or if its on CONSTANTLY its a violation, right?
The functional status of ABS is indicated by the ABS malfunction lamp. When power is initially provided to the ABS system, the lamp momentarily turns on to confirm the lamp is working and during this time a self-test of the ABS is automatically conducted. If and when any fault is detected during the system test or if a fault is stored in memory because it occurred intermittently on previous occasions, the lamp stays on until the fault is corrected or power is disrupted, otherwise the lamp turns off. A problem (and a violation) is present either when the ABS malfunction lamp fails to turn on when power is applied to the ABS or when the lamp turns on and then stays on.
That DOT checks that on Level 1 and 2 inspections?

Because apparently breakdown and some of our drivers don't think so. And think unplugging it or cutting it or not replacing the burnt bulb is a "solution". Or that some of our trailers don't self test for some reason...88 Alpha Thanks this. -
For glaring defects like that they need to pay $75 to you for wasting your time. They need to deduct that from the previous driver's settlement. I bet tires and lights will start getting fixed if that policy was in place.
-
Don't forget....The lens has to have ABS etched on it or it has to have a label above it on the metal that's says ABS.
Learned that one a few years back in Idaho. -
It sort of is.... if you have to get a trailer repaired, they will compensate you pennies on the hour to get it fixed.
They are supposed to get with last driver and let then know and deduct minutes from them.
Note according to the contract, JCT has the right to charge previous driver FULL AMOUNT of needed repair. They don't do that, which I think they should.
The reason I've been told is because they don't want to run off drivers. I looked straight into Shannon's and Brian's face and said, "why the hell not? I surely don't want these types of people working with me." They laughed, I was pissed.
One time I had ALL 8 trailer tires replaced. I'm sure nothing happened to the previous piece of crap that left it like that.MachoCyclone and Saturday Thank this. -
Well, still no preplan. Tomorrow morning at 9am central will be 24hrs and should qualify me for layover. But, knowing my luck I will get a preplan just before that.
-
Layover? We don't get that.
-
I'm guessing the big ### label that says what the light is and how it works counts?
-
I get 50 once in a while. Last trailer I picked up on swap had to have a tire replaced and one with a nail patched. This one was just two lights and an unplugged aBS system. ( the driver didn't unplug it the clip that joined the rear of the trailer to the front of the trailer on the ABS line broke off that's why the system wasn't self testing even after I replace the bulb).
I have so many petro points and I never fill up there...heh
