Doesn't matter. All approaches to the weigh station have pre-scales embedded into the freeway lanes. One, it prechecks the axle weights as the truck drives over it. Second it calculates the truck's speed and records the milliseconds from the time the drives get off the pre-scales til the tandems get off the pre-scales and if the time is too much or the weight is close the driver will get a red light on the Prepass.
Then, once the truck is on the scale creeping at 3 miles per hour, they have (hidden from the driver view) a measuring standard on the ground. If it still looks questionable, they will send the driver around to the appropriate bay to be inspected.

Second, on the fairly small chance you are directed into the bay, the question is if a California government employee is going to go out of his way to break out the tape measure to check if that sticker is in the exact right place? You have more faith in the work ethic and dedication of the loyal, hardworking California State employees than most.....Oxbow Thanks this. -
I had been pulled in and inspected twice at Truckee with no problems when I was pulling a 52ft spread cattle trailer out there. Then one day the lady got a big up her butt and came out and measured me. About two months later they were letting the big spreads run out there again with no hassle.

California is broke and if they were smart they'd just sell permits like FL does.
-
Or sell permits like every other state does. PER TRUCK
Instead of just one for the company, good for life, good for all trucks.Oxbow Thanks this. -
All the more reason for California to secede.

See the speed. Also notice that WA get a very good estimate of wheel separation distances long before you actually cross the Scale. I doubt CA has any less information. -
You know how we all sit around and talk about ways to beat the scales, fool the CHP, hide things from DOT and so on?
What exactly do you think the cops talk about when they get together? Right! They talk about truckers and some of the dumb-### things they try to get away with. It's pretty hard to come up with some excuse that they haven't heard a hundred times.Oxbow, DoneYourWay, MachoCyclone and 6 others Thank this. -
