Please help!!!! Got a violation today!!!

    Hey guys,
    This may be a stupid question.... but I need help.

    I was off duty 3/5/2017-3/10/2017

    I came to the truck and made an off duty log book with the dates on there. AND i listed the off duty log with 3/11/2017 (todays date)

    THEN.... I made a todays log book as well with 3/11/2017 because I started driving today...

    So basically I wrote 3/11/2017 on my off duty log and on my log book for today.


    I got pulled over and everything was fine, until he checked my logs and gave me a violation for the wrong date on my logs. This was in California.


    You guys are pro's here! Help me out.
    Am I wrong? Or is he wrong?

    Well you're not off today, it should had been 3/5/2017 - 3/10/2017 on your off duty.


    Elog would had help prevent logbook errors......*grab popcorn*

    Off duty log shoud of been dated on 1st off duty day and noted in coments all off dates

    Just want to clarify that the off duty dates were listed on the off duty log book!

    But at the top left corner I listed todays date.... to show that I wrote it today.

    You don't need to show that. Never write any more than what is required. The less they know the better.

    If you are off for a span you log the date of the last day, but in comments you list the span of dates. You are supposed to at midnight or the first available time to stop close out prior days logs. So you log for that should have shown as the 10th... basic oversight.. tell him you screwed up and just rewrite that days logs.

    This is weird, I always do the same thing. I mark myself "off duty" on Friday when I get home.
    Then on Monday, let's say March 13th, I write that I was "off duty" March 10-March 13, cause the off duty line goes from Friday evening till 9am on Monday when I start.

    Sounds to me like (if I'm understanding correctly what you're describing) you have some "overlapping" where the 11th appears on two pages? Could easily be excused as a "faux pas" I suppose. Might be worth pleading to a judge that it was an "honest mistake".
