At the very least their equipment is way worse than the Chicago outfits from what I've seen. At least when the Chicago outfits screw their drivers out of money at least they still maintain their equipment somewhat. These California clowns drive the most dilapidated pieces of crap you'll ever see.

They are. Sometimes they're worse.
When you see the CalT number and the DOT number scrawled on the door with a magic marker, when neither driver speaks English, when the inside of the truck smells like a goat pen that you notice just walking by, and when the owner's answer to any rate question is "We'll haul it cheaper"...beware.
The fly by night companies are our competitors but almost every customer we've lost to them has eventually come back when their loads didn't arrive on time or arrived damaged.

 

Talking on hand held phones and driving on the wrong side of the road?? And couldn't even figure out where they were?? No wonder the industry is moving towards stuff like driver cameras and self driving trucks.....too many of these dimbulbs coming into the industry, can't even read a map!! If it were up to me I'd make it MANDATORY anyone applying for a new first time CDL must possess a regular license for TWO years before applying, and must have a CLEAN record., and at least 1 whole year of training and apprenticeship before being turned loose solo in a truck. And if caught holding a phone while driving a CMV, PERMANENT loss of license, along with a HUGE debilitating fine plus a month or two jail time, and increasing to capitol punishment or life sentence if a texting, drunk, or drugged driver causes a fatal wreck!! Just having a fine isn't enough!! And it certainly doesn't help the DMV in California has already been busted in fake CDL's for cash scandals. I don't by any of that "driver shortage" crap the ATA spews. There's way too many non-trained morons out here who shouldn't have even been allowed to ride a bicycle.

Seen their truck again with the red logo on the trailer. The driver was smoking a cigar and chilling like a villain. Equipment was kinda dilapidated

 

I passed one of their trucks this afternoon on I 5, guy had one foot up in the window and was picking at his toenails. I couldn't even tell if he had a hand on the wheel, I saw that foot and quit looking before I couldn't get the visual out of my head.
