What DAC is really about. It's not about safety

That's the point of the OP. Companies use DAC to keep drivers from going to better jobs or even going anywhere. If a driver is going to move sideways instead of move up, he may not leave an outfit right away. He'll stay around and keep driving for his present outfit. If a company can trash its drivers means of moving on to better, they can lower their turnover, as they can make their drivers 'stuck' where they are. And most outfits won't put anything on a DAC until after a driver leaves. If a driver has done something to warrant a DAC report, the info should be put on his DAC ASAP and the driver potentially fired. Companies waiting around 6 months, which they commonly do, to put what they call negative information on a DAC tells me they're misusing DAC and resorting to dirty trickery to solve their turnover problems. If something needs to be put on a driver's DAC, put it on there immediately and fire the driver. If this isn't done, then the DAC becomes a way to make drivers less attractive to a competing carrier and thus not as hireable, making the driver more likely to have to stay around.

Anyone gets a DUI it's on the BMV anyway, that's not something you can hide. DACs are definitely abused by companies.

On the flip side, though, with drivers harder to come by and companies getting harder and harder up for drivers, which will only get worse with robots coming and no one going to CDL mills anymore, if I had a company and I relied on DAC, I wouldn't allow a drivers' former company to potentially cost me a good driver. So what if the guy applying curbed two rims in a month or scratched a trailer in tight dock? If he has no tickets and no accidents and several years / several hundred thousands of miles experience, I'm hiring him. I'm not letting a company's beef or games cost me a good driver.

Yeah... but also consider a lot of companies will screw drivers and lie to them, and do every bit of dishonesty possible, especially recruiters. But if drivers dare say anything out of turn or criticize those dishonest practices, the company penalizes them. It's a total double standard in this industry.
