I received a lead FRIDAY from my CDL School Director. He told me a beer company called for workers(most likely helpers) and he told them he had a guy who has his cdl that just graduated and he'll send him down or call. I went to DMV got my hazmat, doubles and already had tanker. I called the contact person then went to fill out application. While on my way I decided to call my oil company and ask if they were hiring. They said no, but another company was. I contacted that company filled out application, talked with office manager, meet the owner and they said "I'll give you a shot, I like you" I was given "THE JOB". They sent me out for WHIZ QUIZ and asked me if I wanted to try it out Saturday and Sunday to see if I liked it plus I can get trained. I SAID YES! Will go over pay on monday. Only problem is no bennies.I currently have bennies from the state and VA. It's also seasonal and goes part time in summer 3 days + collecting. Not a problem I was in lawn care/landscaping and can go with my old boss in the summertime to make up hours or look for other oil/gas jobs that are busy in the summer. I know one that is busy then and pays great. At least this is a stepping stone or new home. Will keep MILLIS in play incase it doesnt work out. It should I wanted to be a tank YANKER all my life.
I WORKED THIS WEEKEND EVERYTHING WENT GREAT.I'VE DRIVEN EMPTY AND FULLY LOADED. DID DOUBLE CLUTCHING, ITS A 5 PEED WITH A TWO SPEED HI(RED BUTTON). YOU NEED TO DOUBLE CLUTCH IT TO ACTIVATE IT IN 5TH. Will keep looking for tractor trailer work. A recent grad went to a bigger company and is paid MID 20'S to deliver home heating oil, fuel to construction, tractor trailers and fuel to the airport. I'll be calling next week.

Isn't that how they pay - per mile ... just like all trucking companies? I'm confused ... do they have a different payment method? Or are you telling me that they pay hub miles instead of HHG or practical?

okay, just read another comment ... apparently it's an extra .05cpm if they bone you on your home time ... not bad.

Hey ya'll!! My name is Sketch and this is my first post here....I too am looking to get back into the trucking industry, and so far its been like getting blood from a rock!!! 5 year MVR history is great, but 10 year not so much.....I've been reading this forum for a couple days now and about Millis Transfer Inc. I must say you all have been very helpful!! I took some of the questions that were posted here, and a few of my own, to include the "student scamming". Let me just say this, I have my acceptance letter from Jazz and Mike, and when i called this morning, Jazz was very helpful, upfront, and completly honest! The last 8 months I've been talking with Roehl Transport about their Honor Program, (and boy am I glad I stayed away from there.) they told me everything I wanted to hear, but when it came time to commit and sign up, they tell me that "The highering committee has pasted on your application". :biggrin_2551: All this time they told me "yeah, we can get you in, come on up," But not the case with Millis. After explaining my situation with my license and with Roehl, Jazz is taking the time to run my backgrounds and MVR before I even send 1 dollar! Now to me that speaks great things about a company. To go out of the way to make you feel better and that yes you will have a job after training and school! I haven't scheduled yet, hoping to tomorrow, but thus far I am extremely happy with my "Millis Experience"

Hopefully this will clear any other questions some of you may have about MTI....This is according to Jazz and the convo I had with her this morning. If you pay the full $2500 up front, there is no "promisary note" or contract to work for one year. She said nothing about any hidden $2500 in the contract. Now if you elect to have the payroll deduction for the school, then yes there is a 1 year contract to work for them, once again nothing said about a hidden fee. I'm not saying its not there, but they will not tell you about it. It is something you will have to read during the contract signing! Best of luck in your decisions! and I hope to see you all out on the road!
