I just found another cool place))) Sysco Southern California in Lancaster Ca.
Got late yesterday (slow shipper), so they want a comcheck for 100$, when I called the broker he told me he needs a tax id. I asked for tax id, was told that they don't provide one. So after one hour I got kicked out.
Nothing to do coz was 11pm. This morning after a couple of people amd explanation got the tax id, called the broker and now this other guy on the phone doesn't need a tax id)))
When I got to receiving I was told that yesterday was 100$ today is 400$.
I just wish it would be so simple for us to get detention. When you leave the dock just ask for a comcheck

I did the grocery warehouse thing for years and knew some guys in management that I met after changing companies. They said part of the reason they fine companies for being 1 minute late or jack up the cost several hundred dollars if they can delay the driver until the next day, is to recoup some of the transportation costs. I had a place in Milton,PA take a full pallet off the truck while I was at the office getting the BOL or before I could pull out of the door far enough to close the doors. This happened twice at the same place.
Another time at the same place I acted real friendly with one of them and pretended I hated the trucking company, and he said they are under strict orders to short the loads to make the inventory look better because there was a potentian buyer for the company. -
I worked with a driver one time that used to be the top meat man at Winn-Dixie in Sarasota,FL and we had some long talks about that. He said it was pretty much company policy to cheat trucking companies, brokers, shippers. The people on the docks were forcing kick backs from the lumpers and insisted the drivers hire the lumpers. I never would because I knew what they were doing, so I unloaded the truck myself. They would berate me and accuse me of not caring about the lumpers families and how the lumpers need money for food and medical bills for their children. Total BS.

It's one of the hardest places there is to get into as well. You have to back through the main gate or blind in with ZERO margin for era. Can't remember name, it's around 35th Ave & Buckeye road someplace. And of course it still took like 4 hours to get unloaded.
I was at the Sysco in Sacramento once like 10 years ago. It was kind of what you described. At least the have tradition lol.visoiuvlad Thanks this.
