As far as hometime and passing thru the house in between, when I passed thru the house a couple weeks ago for a day enroute to my S. FL delivery, I asked if that counted as hometime, he said no (previous companies would reset your RDO - required days out- if you spent more than a few hours at home). When they sent me home early this week (didn't have short loads out of FL that would allow me to run them and still get home by my requested date and they didn't want to make me late for hometime), I asked if taking Thurs - Sunday, then leave out Monday was too much time off after 3.5 weeks...he said no, but I reconsidered because that much time off would hurt my miles for the month a little too much, so I said send me out Sunday, he said no problem, I'll let you know what you're load is on Friday.
One thing I have to get use to here, 24/7 dispatch. Poly and Magnum had bankers hours for the dispatch office (with an after hours number that went to a cell phone/voice mail, and a prayer hoping they respond). Another is having FL freight in and out of the state. Poly could get me in, but they usually had a long deadhead out(all paid)...and Magnum usually had a long deadhead home(which wasn't paid) and back out after hometime was over (which was paid).
As far as trailers, I have had a few old ones...several had electrical issues. One had a marker light ground rivit break(which I couldn't fix), and the last one had a splice in a turn signal light come apart. Neither was a major repair (I did the turn signal repair myself faster than it would have been to call in and drive to a shop). That's another thing I like here...if you have a need for road repairs, they answer the phone very quickly here and get the repairs done as fast as possible. I have had a couple visits to T/A shops already, and both shops made comments as to how fast the phone was answered when calling for approval for repairs, unlike some of the megas that keep them on hold forever.Last edited: May 18, 2017
