I just bought my first truck in TN, but I live in Pa. The tag place I talked to said that I would need to pay sales tax if I didn't have an ICC or PUC number. I don't, as I am leasing to another company, and that company doesn't supply that info. Who should I contact to figure out if sales tax is avoidable?

Also, I am registering and plating through the company, located in IL.

I could be mistaken and obviously after reading this thread states vary, but in Idaho if you register IRP (International Registration Plan) you pay no sales tax, regardless of ICC number.

Why don't you want to pay your fair share of tax in California, you live there. Pay up, man. Governor Moon Beam is depending on you!Oxbow Thanks this.

Btw, anyone taken a look of what the FET is on a new truck? I know, I just paid it last year and I live in a State with NO sales tax.

I know what happens, if your neighbor, or someone who is not on good terms with you calls DMV Investigations, the Investigator will see how long you have lived in Cali, if the truck was purchased while you were a Cali resident, and if so you will get a letter in the mail. The letter will give you a line item list of taxes and registration fees that were due when you bought it, and list the registration penalties and tax penalties. You will have 30 days to write a check or make payment arrangements. If you fail to pay it, they will show up with a tow truck, a court order, and seize the vehicle for the amount due. Next door neighbor has 2 exotic sports cars, all registered in Indiana, the state showed up a few weeks ago and took them from the garage. He is now trying to figure out how to pay the past due amount, he said they don't take payments if they seize the vehicles. I asked why he didn't pay, he said he didn't think they would do anything to him.
