I would rather wear the hazmat suit hauling caustic and bleach than deal with asphalt or #6 oil. I haven't hauled asphalt, but we have 54 asphalt cans in the fleet, so i'm sure one day I will be hauling that. I do haul #6 oil from time to time, and man is that ever messy!

The guy who spilled had 16 years with us, with out a spill. They told him to watch what he is doing and don't do it again. I did have a spill a year ago because of a problem with the mill line I was hooked up to. It started leaking out just behind their valve and before I got it shut down, several gals. was on the ground. The operator told me to just wash it all down into one of the water treatment ponds and wait for the pipe fitter to come fix it. After that, not another drop was spilled.

Lesson learned, it usually takes once, LoL~! You can't imagine the clothing I go thru. I have one dresser for "work" clothes, and then yeah, the regular. I have scars from the burns where it dripped under my glove or into my sleeve.

It's messy stuff, for sure. Just my comfort zone, I guess. I stay much cleaner, with each year, or so the wife says, hehehe... Guess it's better than going home with bleach holes in my "everythings," huh?

Best of luck to ya man, welcome to Tanks! ;)

ps: I always check the valves before I go full "B's to the wall...." tricks get learned with time... or then again, lessons.... more than tricks!

You guys would hate the stuff I haul....Asphalt mixed with a rubberized type additive...
Super thick and stringy!...Haul it at 110 degrees to keep it fluid.
The only thing that cuts it is a super strong citrus based cleaner...about 2000 bucks for a drum of it!

I forgot to let the pressure of my hose about 3 am one night and got drenched in it...eyes,ears,hair and all.
2 hours later in my boxer shorts I headed to the yard looking like Swamp thing!.....lol!

Now PIX of THAT would be priceless~! ;) What's your goop weigh, anyway? Probably lighter than mine, I'd think. Sounds like rubber cement with an asphalt base?!? LoLoL..

Oh,It was a bad night! Threw my clothes in the dumpster and did not want to ruin the other clothes I had with me. Good thing I didn't get pulled over in my underwear....lol!

Our stuff is 8.6 pounds per gallon....It is mostly asphalt with a few hundred gallons of different polymers mixed in...It coats concrete walls and seals them water tight...All my drops are at concrete yards or basement contractors.
Most of them I do when they are closed or whenever I get there.

My company has a contract to haul roofing flux from the Irving refinery in Saint John, NB. to a place in NH. Stuff is rubberized and loaded at 350 degrees. Not sure how stringy it is, being that hot.
Man that sucks. At least your asphalt mix is cold compared to other mixes.

Kinda.... my 3257 is about the same... my 6122 can run as "cold" as 240 deg F. Heck, my wife handles food in an oven set at 350, so who am I to complain?!? LoL.

Weight wise... we're pretty similar. I'll be. I thought his would be lighter, but I'm not getting the whole "polymer" thingy... guess I'll research that at some point, just for S and G's....!

Well, you guys can keep all the asphalt and bleach and stringy polymer goop stuff lol. I did read the SDS for the stuff I've been hauling -- not hazmat, but you don't want to breathe the dust once it dries. But that's as close to hazmat as I think I want to get.

I've been running on recaps all week. Had 7.5 hours on my 70 this morning, got back to the terminal with 4 hours left and 7.5 coming back tomorrow, but no loads. Well, I had a bee load that was supposed to load out tomorrow night for Saturday morning, but after making arrangements to load it today so I could go home with it, it was cancelled. So I have a nice long weekend, which is nice actually. I'll see whether I get a Monday or Tuesday load when I call in tomorrow.
