So I turned another drivers noisy reefer off at a truck stop...

That's the only time I've ever moved. Parked next a empty one one time. Thought it would be ok since it was empty. Uh no ....

I hate reefers, high idle trucks, bad air dryers and the list goes on, but what are you gonna do, I usually try and park on an end row in the back, so chances are I only have one meat head to deal with on that perfect 60 degree night with the windows open.

I guess I will ask while on the subject, was parked in NM one night behind a little ts and in pulls this container truck, with a belly mounted reefer, absolutely the loudest #### thing that I have ever heard continuously, sat there half the night watching guys park aside of that thing and a couple of minutes later park elsewhere.

Drove refer for awhile, home for the weekend, parked in an old public scale facility, someone from a house 1/4 mile away turn it off because it bothered them. Had on 2,000 lbs boxes of frozen vegetables, the sheer size of the containers kept the load okay.
Drove Steps, only time I was annoyed was when I would park in the back, pull in vs. back-in, then have a refer do the same thing.

When I pulled a reefer I couldent sleep with it on start stop. When it started it would rock the whole truck violently. And then the noise. If it's a continuous noise I'm fine.
Only ever found one reefer that bugged me. Thing sounded like it had a freaking glass pack muffler on the thing

Some of those APU's are worse than a fart cannon. I'll take a truck with 10" pipes idling next to me all night long over one of those start and stop APU's that sound like a 1960's lawn tractor trying to climb Pikes Peak.

The last company I pulled reefer for had TK and Carrier reefers. None were more than 3 years old, the TK's were so quiet I couldn't tell if it was the reefer or my TK apu running but the Carriers were so loud, I had to buy a sound bar for my tv so I could hear over the #### things. Supposedly Carrier is redesigning their exhaust system to make them quieter.

I think a single Honda Civic muffler will triple their silencing on the Carriers. I hate those things.

Side note on glasspacks. Anyone know if they're usually directional? Had a couple cut off the GF's truck, and I kinda want to add them to my F150 to shush it down a bit, but it might involve some creative welding.

I just wish they would run at a constant idle speed. On, off, high idle, low idle... too much variation. Give me a constant noise and I'll be fine. I sleep better with the truck running. It's brakes dynamiting, reefers kicking on/off, Jake's blaring that wakes me up.

Depends on the person. I'm the one who will still be idling on a perfect 60 degree night because I can't sleep without the truck running, a reefer is just an added bonus. I do also drive a Volvo which seem to have great sound-dampening qualities, so all I hear is the silent roar of the trucks on both sides and the minor vibration of my own truck and I sleep like death. In fact I'm home every weekend and I sometimes can't wait to leave back out just for a good nights rest again...

I had a friend who swore he was gonna' buy one of those old bed vibration machines the no-tell motels had back in the day, just so he could feel like the truck was idling. Told him to tuck his old lady's vibrator under his pillow...he said he can't, it would cost more to replace the batteries every night than what he spends in diesel idling...would be cheaper to sleep in the truck in his own driveway.
