Can we drive with ear buds/headphones on?

Don't do it in Ohio at all. Even using one ear bud is illegal.

I recommend at least two weeks before your DOT physical, wear earplugs at least 12 hours a day to re-sensitize your ears to maximum hearing so you can pass the test. Need to be wearing the a lot on a regular basis if you want to avoid having a hearing aid when you get older.

 

I wear mine everywhere. And as my esteemed fellow driver stated it will prevent hearing loss.

When I drove a mixer, regular ear plugs went in right after I got out of the car, and remained in ears, until I was getting back in the car.

 

If you wear ear plugs while driving how you going to hear say am ambulance or someone honking because of an emergency?

 

Not to sound rude, but is this really a serious question? Highly illegal even in a POV, let alone CMV. No different than being on the phone without a headset ($2500 fine for driver, $10,000 for the carrier).

That being said, the BlueTiger single headset is capable of streaming audio from your smartphone. Not sure it's 100% legal, but it's closer to legal than earbuds, methinks.

AAAAANNND.... All units have the ability to fade the music to the front speakers only. Cascadias even have a switch to turn off the rear speakers without using the fader.

Most, if not all, 12V mobile audio units have a menu to access tone/bass/treb, balance and fader settings. Most truck units, you access it by pushing the volume knob in, then turning the knob to scroll through the menu, pushing the knob in to select or confirm a setting.

The fader allows you to adjust the bias between front and rear speakers, from sound only in the front, to sound only in the rear. So you can "fade" the music away from the rear speakers to the front so as not to disturb your co-driver. Balance allows fading from left to right in the same fashion.

Cascadias do it one better and have a rocker switch in the bunk to lock out the rear speakers without using the fader. Not sure if this feature is on other makes and models as well.

 

So simple to figure out.I couldn't understand what you was saying either in that previous post.Some trucks are just loud and no adjusting the radio will drown out the sound of loud trucks.But its illegal to wear ear devices,plugs, buds that would interfere with your hearing.I drove a dump truck that was extremely loud.I always had 1 earplug in not two because otherwise i'd hear ringing like you do after listening to a band at the bar.
