Clean install. But I can't bring myself to cut the back of the cab, that and I have a headache rack.

Rooftop ac is the way to go, hot air rises and cool air drops. Plus it takes up zero space inside the truck. The down side, you gotta cut a hole in the roof...

I've been looking as some of those rooftop rv models. I wish they made a 5k BTU one. Most are 10k+ and that's almost too much for a flat top cab since you don't want them to short cycle.

Don't know...saw it at a local antique shop. Tag says it does, but I didn't buy it...no room in my cab right now for it. In theory, you fill it with ice, and the fans draw the air through the ice to cool it down. When the ice melts, you dump the water and refill the ice box.

Swamp coolers only really work well in dry climates. Unless you never leave the West, it would not be a good option.

Don't waste your money on a swamp cooler if you are in a high humidity area, it's worse than having no a/c at all. They don't even work that well in a low humidity environment.

A a/c makes you feel cool in two different ways. One way is the obvious, it cools the air, but about half of the way a a/c works is it removes humidity. 70 deg with no humidity will make most people want to put on long sleeves. 70 deg with high humidity will make even the most cold natured person sweat. You can lower the humidity in a room and never change the air temp and the room will feel cooler, just the opposite happens with a swamp cooler.

Cold air falls and heat rises, do RV roof mount AC units make up for inefficiency with a more ideal location?
