I love driving at night. In fact, I prefer it.
As for stupid reasons to be in a shop; I was saw a guy waiting in a 5 hour line for a TA/Petro shop just for a wiper blade install. That's it. Nothing else. I asked him why not just do it yourself and his excuse was not my truck.

He may have been trying to prove a point to his company.
My last company, we had to install new wiper blades mid trip, and they put a safety hold on the truck until the shop could check the blades. -
I think a lot of these guys gets swelled heads. They think, "I'm a big time owner/op now and I'll call the shots!"
Most of those swagger in then stagger out three months later crying how it's all rigged and, "ain't nobody mak'in no money in leasing!"
TAdrvrtech77 and crxdc Thank this. -
Mist guys I talk to that are having problems can't answer what MPG they get . What the profit per mile is. What the break even number is. Also most don't track pay or even check to make sure they get paid right. It's sad.
TAfool and MachoCyclone Thank this. -

Picked up at Dal-TiLe in Sunnyvale, Tx. I go get the bills and the weight is 45150. I knew it was going to be over gross, but had to go get a CAT scale. And sure enough I was right. Now waiting to hear from JCT. I know freight has to come off. Tandems are almost all the way back as it is and won't be able adjust another 2000lbs.

Went back to the shipper. Talk to the dock foreman. He asked if I wanted the load completely reworked to balance it out better and remove some frieght. I said I don't really care just whatever is quicker, easier and gets me to bed sooner and less work for you. One of the heavier pallets on the trailer was right there on the assignment end. So, he removed that 2500lbs pallet and I went and reweighed and all is good now.

Just so it doesn't look like I always defend what night dispatch or dispatch in general does...
If I can see the logic in why something is being done a certain way I generally have no problem with it. Like the free-form messages a day before delivery to ensure that your good for otd. They're done because morons don't know how to fill out the macro one.
The flip side of that is if you don't trust the macro one, why do you waste our time filling it out anyways.
My biggest one is the produce check calls. Now my driver manager normally is innudated with phone calls so his policy is either call it in or send a free-form with all the information. It just doesn't make sense to me because it's basically a repeat of all the information in the macro one.
Fast forward to today just woke up sent my macro one followed it up immediately with a free-form with basically the same information night dispatch sends a message back, you need to call this in and sends the phone number...
Why?
I mean honestly I just sent a macro one I just sent a free-form less than one minute after I sent the macro one with the same information on the macro one and you want me to call in to verbally give you the information I just sent to you twice within two minutes. And why do I want to usually sit on hold to wait to give you information I just sent you?
I've sat on hold for 10 minutes before to give a produce check call right after sending a macro one before.
I am getting pretty close to just sending in blank macro ones because if in two different ways you don't trust them why do I need to waste the keystrokes?
This concludes my "if we have the technology to communicate without cell phones why don't we use it" rant for this evening...kanidana Thanks this. -
