You should definitely read ALL of @blairandgretchen thread regarding his cold turkey transition from company dry van to buying an old truck and leasing on with Landstar with open deck. He had a good plan and has made a good profit.
IMHO the most important thing is to "Have a Plan, Work the Plan". Curveballs will come your way, you WILL make mistakes that impact your bottom line. However, reading through threads like @blairandgretchen, @double yellow, and @BoyWander are invaluable for anyone considering becoming an owner operator.
Don't think about trying to run as many miles as you can. Think about maximizing revenue per week.K Wopper906, noluck, not4hire and 2 others Thank this. -
Thanks - you're very kind.
Having the plan and being very honest about it is important. A thorough review of your finances before starting out is critical.
We started at a time freight rates were lack luster - swam, and now rise with the rest of the boats.
Just hit $2.10 all miles for the first 2 quarters - pleased with that. $1.68 - $1.88 - $2.10, (year on year) - on 2nd truck, and retained the 2nd trailer with minimal debt.K Wopper906, noluck, DDlighttruck and 1 other person Thank this. -
You mess up an oversize load and you will be in the hole a lot more than 50 grand. I wouldn't worry about it, just show them that pic of you in the bathroom flexing your muscles. People will throw work at you..lol.. Tell them you dont ever eat donuts! Just as an extra sales pitch to sale yourself...lol..

Jealous fatties are my favorite.
Two people in person talking to a customer with the exact same experience.
Who do you think gets called back, the heavy set sloppy Joe who clearly gives zero ####s about his appearance, brags about sucking down junk food and gives of the scent of mediocrity, or the guy dressed nice that looks like me.
Tell yourself and write whatever you feel you need to, deep down you know the true answer.
I'm gonna leave this subject alone cause it's not what this thread is about. The proof is in the numbers. The fitness world is a billion dollar industry because people like you pay REAL good money to try and look like me. If You and everyone in the universe had a choice to be fat or in shape, no one would pick Fat. The irony is that 99% of the time it is fat people choosing to be fat, out of not wanting to eat healthy and exercise. You're out of your mind if you think appearance doesn't effect ones oppurtunities in this world.
Here's a little secrete you'll never know, nothing tastes as good as being jacked feels.Last edited: Jul 2, 2017

Whoa!
Ok!
Try feeding on the positivity here young fella!, the rest will drag you down . . -
I do but this the 3rd or 4th time this guys mentioned my physique like it's a negative, it was time to shut that down lol.
I'm all about the real and the positive. Already learned allot and looking forward to learning much more. -
Don't take this wrong. I know it took a lot of hard work and discipline to get in that kind of shape. It's that same hard work and discipline that will help you be successful. You should be proud of that. No doubt! But, a man should never take selfies of themselves. Imo. Especially muscle selfies. It comes off, to me anyhow. As a way of saying "look at me." Again be proud of the work you've done. I'm the ladies love it! But us crusty old truckers don't really give a ####
DSK333, K Wopper906, BoyWander and 4 others Thank this.
