I saw this on a recent safety meeting...
For solo drivers only beginning on July 18, you'll no longer be able to respond and read messages, or change navigation while the truck in motion. The qualcomm will read messages out to you while in motion.
Qualcomm will be locked out while driving beginning July 18

I can't believe thy waited this long. Most company's locked them out several years ago when the lawsuits where flying around from driver intention accidents.
Tb0n3 and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
And the computer voice is the typical "WTF did it just say" chopped up jibberish...most companies I have worked for had those and it really is only good to see if it's an important message or just a general fleet message that can be read later.
bzinger, Tb0n3, FullMetalJacket and 2 others Thank this. -
My problem is not being able to change navigation while driving.
The other day I received a message while driving saying to head to a specific truck stop to meet a driver to repower a load. So now in the future I'll have to either pull off to the shoulder of the freeway or take an exit to do this. Both of which are not ideal.
I can understand locking out responding to messages and I can probobly live with the QC's text to speech while driving but the navigation thing is going to be hard to get used to. -

Yes I heard about this also, Again I agree with locking out the messaging while the truck is in motion. However the navigation not being able to reroute is just insane. Sometimes with all the trip planning in the world things happen and you need the reroute feature. I guess I will have to quit being cheap and break down and buy a Rand McNally GPS also..... Also the voice reading the messages to you is crazy. Half the time you can't even understand. Especially when I am in route somewhere and they change up the load on me which has happened a few times.. This will be interesting.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Never stop on the shoulder unless you are broke down.

Trying to decipher what that crappy text to speech is spewing out is more distracting than reading.
Have they actually listened to that stuff?
PChase, redoctober83 and FullMetalJacket Thank this. -
I like it when the Qualcomm lady reads out the 1-800 company phone number. One billion, eight hundred thousand etc. They locked ours out years ago too.
PChase, bzinger, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this.
