One long load he picked up the week before that had to carry over a pay period. Plus one average load after being empty. Not difficult.

Rubicon, chris_karr and MJ1657 Thank this.

What makes Melton an "elite" flatbed company?

They take students, I never see them running any os/ow loads that look substantial. I don't see the elite.

    Rubicon Thanks this.

While that may be so, it's a starting point for anyone wanting to get into that part of the industry, it's amazing pay for a rookie driver.

Lots of good points here. It's probably a pretty good job for somebody or a lot of people. The difference between .40 CPM and the .48 Melton offered me would probably matter to someone with no kids, no car payment, no rent, no credit card. To me it's just soliciting myself to the highest bidder. Right now I get 27. an hour with Core Mark and that's chump change, too. Better to get my own truck or sell hard hats the shape of turbins. So, .48 or more with 2700 miles with a company that treats you a little better is nice, but there has to be ridiculous amounts of money somewhere else.

Anyone know where orientation is for east coast people and if they pay for orientation and travel?

Melton has orientation for new CDL holders in Tulsa, OK. Experienced drivers who only need shorter orientation can be done in either Tulsa or Birmingham, AL.
Orientation is paid. As in they pay you a small daily amount of money. They put you in a hotel. They pay for your greyhound bus ticket to orientation. Pretty standard. Not bad. Personally I paid my own air fare. I can't do a day on a bus.
